Now, before all the fanboys start kneckbearding all over their keyboard hear me out. Dust went from 4.5k concurrent sometimes 6k during Chromosome, some vets believe that to be the golden years of Dust. Controls weren't great but nowhere near as bad as what we have currently, there were never FPS issues, latency sure but it was only on certain players as normal in online games. Did we have balance issues of course but it was getting there and a lot closer then what it is currently imo..
That was till reviews came out bashing the graphic so CCP decided to get a wild hair up their ass and "improve" the graphics. Along this same time line (correct me if im wrong, memory is a little fuzy on exact details) CCP Wolfman decided to tweak or change the control system. Biggest change that I can remember that the community absolutely couldn't stand. Here brought Uprising, which also brought reviewers to step back in for a new peek at the updated graphics and overall improvements. Reviews were harsh only complimenting the slight increase in graphics and the shiny yellow textures added to everything. Reviewers and community felt damn near the same way outside of the few dedicated fanboys that still exist today.
Concurrent users started to drop quick as (core problems started to shine due to Uprising) FPS lag, latency, disconnects, hit detection issues for months the infamous blue shield hit markers, patch after patch of attempts at fixing the uprising disaster. Controls went from no aim assist, full on aim-assist to even anti-aim assist, players were getting stuck like maps were made out of fly paper. More players left not to mention the insult to injury that was the lag fest that planetary conquest soon became and also the tipping point for a lot of veteran players to jump ship. Don't forget as well CCP as a company calling Dust dead in the water because of the PS3 system announcing Legion at Fanfest then having very little transparency on the life of either title..
The reason I give a small, possibly misinterpreted history lesson is because some of the core problems eventually got repaired the ones that didn't people just got used to and accepted and still exist to this day. So for people to say the game is improving are really missing the core reason people left in the first place. We didn't go from 5k concurrent down to barely 3k because of no cash grab lock boxes and lacking ewar meta... We dropped and continue to drop because the core aspect of Dust is under performing competition out there and has since Uprising IMO..
TLDR: People aren't going to give Dust CCP some love till they see progress on the issues that have plagued Dust from the start or scrap the entire thing and give us the game we all love on a next Gen system were it's capable to run at its peak and be the game we all know it was meant to be. Not this triple booster roll of the dice drop system for hard earned cash..
