I am also in the group that HATES auto-Inertial Dampeners, you have no idea how many times I died jumping off the pyramid because the dampener is not only loud, but also renders you COMPLETELY helpless. CCP, you say that it prevents newbies from dying 15 seconds into the game, but if a newbie is dying like that, chances are they're still in starter fits, which means they are not really losing anything dying 15 seconds in. Maybe the next time the newbie can read the message that pops up while free falling |

Auto activate inertia if coming out of the MCC.
Remove auto inertia for everything else.

Not activating Inertial Dampeners teaches a lesson better than any other tutorial in the game.

Auto Inertial Dampeners was just a bad idea. One of those things that makes me want to throw my controller across the room several times per match.
I want to be able to wait until I am 1m from the ground before activating my Inertial Dampeners, so that my enemies are not warned that I am coming even before I hit the ground.
I want the ability to choose not to activate my Inertial Dampeners and accept the resulting loss of shields in order to avoid announcing my arrival to every enemy in the area.
With this change, if you put a Drop Uplink on the tower in the middle of Ashland you are actually hurting your team. Team members jumping down canGÇÖt control their decent properly so they land in the middle of open areas, and the enemy hear you coming for the last 10 m so they are ready and have you lined up for a kill shot before you even stand up.
Not to mention the fact that you can't control your drift to avoid falling in vats of acid, or to land on top of a pipe instead of next to it. Yesterday I was unable to avoid dropping onto a balcony which had a rail all the way around, and since I was in a Sentinel suit I was trapped and had to get a squad member to come pick me up in a Dropship.
Hand/Eye coordination cannot be taught. For everything else there is the Learning Coalition.

why not just have it when jumping from the MCC only.

Then we could hold X and just let off at the last minute. Or for shorter drops behind enemy lines we could hold X until we are on the ground to prevent the Inertial Dampeners from coming on and warning the enemy.
Someone in my Squad last night was pulling a grenade every time he went to jump off a building and then doing a weapon switch when he got close to the ground to override the Inertial Dampeners. But that seems complicated and annoying.

Unfortunately, you have seriously screwed with my 3 dimensional gun play as a result. In the past I would do things like drop off a bridge or over a wall to the street below to either find cover - displace to a better firing position - or to just juke the aim of a person shooting me in the back. Now the f**king auto-dampen activates, stupid animation occurs, I get a 3 second delay where I can no longer move ANYTHING, and I become a sitting target and DEAD because you have a f**king new feature that you didn't provide an OPT OUT for the veteran players!!!!!
SERIOUSLY CCP!!! HOW HARD WOULD IT BE TO ADD A F**KING CHECK-BOX ON THE OPTIONS SCREEN TO TURN OFF THE DAMNED AUTO-DAMPENING!!!!!

A very simple fix is to have an off switch for this just like aim assist. Considering the X button is still linked to it even with it set to auto this seems like it should be fairly easy implement.

Aww, I had that first drop down to a science. Jump out, fall to a second before splatting and bam, inertia and done. Like a boss. As such I was never really impressed with the inertia field as I only ever saw it for a second. That and if I jump off a building I didn't even bother unless it was a really tall one, being a logistics I always have some form of regen fitted in.
