I made a thing.
As the spreadsheet above shows, the Logi suits rival the Cal scout in terms of passive scanning (specifically range). Some points I'd like to make out:
- PRECISION IS VIRTUALLY IRRELEVANT. Both suits are incapable of scanning scouts at their medium ranges. Both suits can't scan even skill-less Assault suits at their farthest ranges at level 5 precision (logis need lvl 4 to dodge passively). Both suits can be dodged by an Assault suit with lvl5 dampening and an 1 basic dampener at their medium range. Yes, scouts have a slight advantage, but it isn't beyond a dedicated scan-Logi to effectively match them.
- As such, the Medium range is all that really matters, and that is what I'll be comparing.
- The logi scan is 5m shorter that a suit that, 1) Should be the best at EWAR (according to Rattati himself on the Biomassed podcast yesterday) and 2) gets a 50% bonus to range. That distance is virtually negligible and makes them essentially equals.
- 30m is fairly short for any practical use, especially when it's the suit's primary bonus.
This change has made the Cal scout useless as an EWAR scout. Not only is it matched by a suit not designated for such a role, but it's also far too short for the use in general.
My proposed change is match both of them at 25m base range and buff complex range enhancers to +20%.
The Cal scout has its role back as the passive best scanner. The 80m long range will only be useful for picking up equipment and heavies while the 40m med range is far enough to still be useful yet balanced (not to mention can still be dodged by meds rather easily). The added bonus of a 15m short scan means it's possible to also be used for counter-scouting lightly-dampened scouts (without treading on the Gal logi or Amarr scout's role).
Thanks for reading. (If any calc.s are wrong or anything, I'll try and correct ASAP)
EDIT: Sorry if the spreadsheet is a little hard to read, I can clean it up a bit if needed.

I agree with what you are saying, but have you considered what a 20% range amp would do with the short scans of other suits and the scout meta? |

Logistics can't.
A 'dedicated scanning logistics' has low eHP AND low speed, with only 1 weapon. A 'dedicated scanning scout' has low eHP but HIGH speed, with 2 weapons.
It balances out perfectly, survival for technical ability.

The range penalty for the closest scan makes the Amarr have a max range of like 12-13m and the Cal could probably only get down to near 15dB precision (that of a Duvolle Focused scanner, which all scouts can dodge).
I haven't done the exact calcs, but it's not looking very threatening.

This is like comparing lemons and oranges. The orange is suppose to be sweet not the lemon. The scout is suppose to EWAR not the Logi. The scout is suppose to solo, not hide being OP heavies.
