As a Planetside 1 veteran, let me just say: You guys will be sad. SOE is a worse master than CCP ever was.
Also, the PC has a way bigger install base than PS4, yet Planetside 2's population numbers are approaching Dust levels...

Yeah, for the first few months Planetside 2 will be great, the battles are epic like no other.
But there is no meta, there is no end game, and SOE will continue to drive the game right into the ground, while CCP slowly polishes the unique turd that is Dust.
See you fools in a year.

See you in a few months. Dust killed itself. Do you really consider 40/50 people playing this game a success? Look at the Planetside 2 pop chart I posted. Planetside has suffered a steeper decline than Dust has, and the recent peak numbers for both games are now comparable:
7720 on PS2 vs 3716 on Dust
The end-game of PS2 is not compelling, victory is extremely transient, the meta is ultra stale, and SOE will continue to mismanage it into the ground.
Planetside on the PS4 is going to be a similar crap-show, and the only possibility of saving the game long-term was to do cross-platform play instead of segregating the increasingly small populations. Planetside needs to stay above a certain population or the game totally collapses. And SOE is doing their best to drop that population.

The playerbase of Planetside has been dropping steadily on PC, and will follow a similar arc on PS4 due to Sony's tendency to sabotage their own online games.
Planetside's issue is that once the population fall below a certain number, those wonderful big fights just stop happening unless Sony steps in and merges servers. And as Sony merges servers people quit due to increased latency, the initial constant strategy-barren zerging that occurs on an over populated server, and being forced into a new community with an alien meta.
Combine that with Sony not releasing content, addressing balance issues, or fixing bugs in a timely manner, and the cycle repeats itself.
Last I checked PS2's highest player count for the month was 7720 players, vs 3716 on Dust.
Think about that, a "Dead" game on a "Dead" console has half the active population of Planetside 2.

Planetside 2 will pretty much be "the" F2P FPS and it doesn't require PS+, so it will be the go-to game for all new console gamers. And the initial appeal of the game is much better than DUST, so it most likely will maintain a good amount of players. And I bet the PS4 version will receive more updates and care than PC, but I of course have no evidence to support that. Yes, absolutely, Planetside 2 will have an explosive launch on PS4, just like it did on PC(especially since a lot of original Planetside players got their character names reserved). But the population will steadily drop as Sony does their thing.
Also, the PS4 and PC codebases have recently been merged (which led to many delicious bugs), which indicates that screwups for both versions will happen more or less simultaneously in the future.

The critical point you are missing is that it is the only game of it's kind on console. With nearly eight million PS4's sold it will have a much more active and larger playerbase. PS2 fizzling out on PC is a matter of better games being released for PC, but on the console side of things it will be a major success simply for the uniqueness of the game itself. Planetside is still the only game of its type on PC, and the PC has a very large and active playerbase. Steam reached close to 8 million simultaneous online users yesterday, and that's not counting people who had their computers off, didn't have Steam open, or don't use Steam for gaming.
Also, if PS2 fizzled out on PC due to better games, why wouldn't it fizzle out on PS4? Great games are coming for PS4 as well.
Planetside is going to be great for about a year, you will have fun. But the same factors that have killed it on PC will kill it on PS4.
