I had the chance to play against them when they were trying to push STB out the first time. We beat a team they sent out in one of the matches. Lo' and behold, the bat signal got sent out and the next match was against their A team. If I was doing the roster for them, I might have replaced 1-2 guys (If the criteria was "Pure Talent"). 10-12 of them had TAC ARs... It was a sight to see. Came down to one tick of armor(It appeared to both sides that imps had no armor left, couldn't have been any closer). The biggest takeaway was that their most talented team almost lost to a ringer squad. Admittedly, it was a pretty talented ringer squad, but if I made the cut, then it was certainly no all-star team... Maybe half an all-star team. We were missing Kono(Who was a big part of our earlier win), but did have quite a few 'best in class' players.
Point being: most of the teams that still play now-a-day would probably wipe the floor with imps as they existed then. They were operationally exceptional and above average in small group tactics, but relied on those advantages too heavily and never developed much strategic depth.
But to be fair.....they did almost lose to The Generals (no disrespect to GEN) so maybe having all of that talent would have been toxic for them.
I remember that fight against Generals. I screwed up sending clones and only 100 landed on the district from Hrober attacking Aedald. You have to believe I was careful about clone jumps from then on. Of course most NF combat directors hated to wait for district regen, so it was mainly attacks with clone packs.
With the current clone loss geography doesn't really matter in PC anymore.
On topic I will say that Cubs was by far the most talented combat director I ever had the pleasure to work with and hands down the best FC in Dust. His ability to manage people and personalities in and out of battle was unparalleled. It's just a shame it took so long to bring him into NF. You can have the best meta in the world but if you don't have people that can get it done on the ground it doesn't matter.
In regard to Kujo, you have to remember that AE was created in order to try and keep NF alive after many, if not most, OG Imps quit Dust after checking off their bucket lists of people they wanted to smash from closed beta. 13ear and I picked Kujo to be the CEO of the new 'elite' corp, I came up with the name Ancient Exiles, and then the rest is history.
The unsung people in a lot of threads like these are the logistics people behind the scenes that kept these corps running. The Himiko's, Zaria's, Fiddle's, Gunner's, Sota's, Steeldark's, and countless others that keep the wheels in PC from coming to a grinding halt. Any leader that thinks he can truly manage an organization by himself is a fool.
