I already had my core maxed to everything at 5 now and I see how that is but every time I miss something that I had and am glad I got rid of the thing.....
I just want to be different , that's all . Four respecs and you are considering your 5th? I am going to suggest you try a little more planning and management before you respec again.
I am one of the players who LOATHED the idea of mercifully giving respecs (...in a game that is supposed to be about valuing your gains, feeling the fear of risk, grinding to acheive your goals, and hurting from your mistakes and bad decisions, adding a redo-buttong sort of defeats the game's purpose).
But I also learned how deliciously crafty and "New Eden" the devs of these EVE games are----they never give you a merciful band-aid, even when it LOOKS like an act of fairness and mercy. Just the way "Aurum" is peddled like ******* in every place your character stands around in, "respec" is being "offered" to you as a way to 'purchase a repeat on your clone's life', and it is a velvet carpet room with just enough opium in it for those who didn't fall for *******. I mean that in fun---not criticism to Dust 514. The devs have a product that has a right to be "free" for the user, and pursuade the user to energetically pony up something in return that will profit the side-person who's paying for all this "free gaming" for us.
But Summa's post is the reminder about HOW Dust was meant to be played. Lots of us still mention CoD, MAG, etc., and if you land on Dust thinking that it's still designed to be a soldier-shooter game, you'll always be respec-ing "one more time" and never progressing as far as some of us who don't respec.
Dust is actually the same Planning and Management game as EVE, only with people shooting at your face so it feels a lot more urgent and bloody. You're supposed to explore a specialty for your character (make many character accounts if you want), and only use your SP to grind that single specialty into a master-Lvl career. Your ought to be doing the "exploring" (changing/trying-out new jobs) using just militia and basic assets----you start full SP grinding only when you've "chosen" a job, and aren't meant to be using up SP in the exploring and trying-out of jobs.
That's why I say Kudos to the folks who post here that they have stockpiles of SP they haven't touched UNTIL they get around to picking a career to master.
Humbly Honored Bow for those of us who picked ONE job per character, and aptly used all our SP (with some moments of wasted SP that hurt us sometimes) to reach levels of fitting proficiency AND game-controller mastery at that job, that constant respec-ing could keep you from ever reaching.
'Yikes', is all I can say to repeated respecs of the same character again and again... That looks like addictive mis-management and "career-student" life to some of us, and not what we consider SUCCESSFULLY conquering Dust.
But hey, we all have our different definitions for what "successful" means at this game. Thank heaven it's not real life we're talking about.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...
