That is actually a good idea. Increase the hitbox with shield stacking. That would make more sense. You should suggest it in their fedback thread.
Although this would be a shield-exclusive nerf and make shield tankers easier to kill...thus forcing people to play more armor. So..maybe not :(

You know what's up, man. Sometimes, when reading all of these "it must be made exactly like EVE!" posts I lose a little faith in humanity, as well as the future of this game. But now I know that it's in sane hands.

On the other hand, armor tankers are already subject to a movement penalty if they're at all serious about adding HP; higher strafe-speed + a slightly larger hitbox seems to be a relatively fair alternative to slower movement + more HP.

i completely disagree with every letter of that post. youre wrong.
dust even has eve in the title of the game. its the same.
shield tanking should have no form of movement penalty at all. be it sprint or strafe or movement or one legged bunny hopping and waltzing. thats part of shield tanking.
yes they are ships. the assault suits are assault cruisers. the logi suits are logi cruisers sentinels are functionally the same as marauders etc etc. zero g and planet surface is irrelevant. being in a vacuum affecting speed would mean that armor mods should have no accompanying penalty in eve online since its zero g.
literally everything with your post is just wrong as far as new eden goes. clearly this game has no future as a serious mmo based shooter if were just going to throw out everything that made eve succesful. it astonishes me how someone from ccp can say the two games that coexist in the same universe are not directly related and affect each others rules. posts like this are why dust was so messed up when it launched. deviation from the established and successful formula with years of balance.
