Title.
Would this fix the scout problem? I run scout without cloak and do fine with speed. Would cloaks only working to evade by hiding fix everything? That way the old honourable way of scouting with speed and scans returns, and cloaks have a spot.
An example of the use of this cloak could be hiding beside a contested objective invisible. A guy walks in and counter hacks. But you turn off the cloak and kill him.
Another is running from a heavy. You turn a corner and cloak. The heavy walks by unsuspecting and you have a chance at killing him.
This cloak might last longer and have better scans again.

The whole point of the cloak when it was brought into the game was to give cqc scouts a way to get from open objective to objective. So, you want the whole point of the cloak to be nullified.

The cloak is not the problem with scouts.
The Federation is not a defined region of space, of planets, of mountains, rivers, or woods. It is a vision.

When I glance at the calender, it says December, not June.
What is the December scout problem you reference?

Scouts weren't "good" or fine prior to 1.8. Anyone who tells you otherwise is being less than honest. |

I think cloaks are fine where they are... I use the cloak to move about in the open as a scout and use my eyes to single out vulnerable targets... Likewise I use my ears to determine if a cloaked scout is about to blap me in the back. With the delay that doesn't generally happen, in fact I've noticed scouts will typically decloak a distance away, myself included and sprint in for the kill so they won't hear me coming. All this has made me lean towards it being functionally more fair. Clumps of full speed sprinting scouts can be hard to counter but so can clumps of anything when your blueberries are trying to figure out which end bullets come out of on their gun... |

The idea that only a few hundred players even bothered using the suit because it was so under powered does not signify it being "fine."
There may be mechanics and fittings that can be abused, but by no means are all scouts across all races using all weapons a problem.
Besides, you would only encourage camping, which is doesn't really help anything.
Just let 1.10 do its thing and see where to go from there.
FYI, I don't even find the cloak worth fitting anymore, and I run a 200-300 HP Minja.

I see the base idea as good...

I like this!
If it comes with an included feature.
While cloaked your DB is reduced by: STD: 25% ADV:50% PRO:75%
THEN WE HAVE A DEAL.

I agree it's not a great idea.
Though to toy with it a bit, if they do go that route then they should make the cloak an "always on" thing in the sense that you don't have to activate/deactivate it or even switch to it to be able to use it. You just stop and if it's equipped then you become cloaked. They'd also have to do away with the flashy animation; of course there should still be a fade-out fade-in animation, just not as flashy as it is now.
Edit: and Checkmate's idea would also be a must.

Cloaks are not the issue, scouts aren't even OP anymore. You guys just hate getting killed by shotguns.
If you're in a tanked out assault and get killed by lolcombatrifle scout then you're just bad. Strafe speed is no excuse, hitbox is no excuse, you just suck plain and simple.

I thought it only worked while standing still now, otherwise you shimmer like a bugged loading screen. The only problem with Checkmates idea is i would have to skill into proto cloaks. I only went to advanced in case my proto suit ever needed it. Still have never said "damn, if i could have only been cloaked a little longer".

I would like a built in cloak (so no 2nd equipment slot) which is always running, completely invisible when you are standing still and glimmer effect when you move, it deactivates automatically if you sprint or shoot or use equipment.
No equipment selection and no animation when you exit cloaked status, so you are immediately visible (but you can also keep your weapons/equipments) and a little time (2-3 seconds) before you can enter cloaked status.
Situational awareness also known as passive scan.
