Such a critical position as "above the point" should not require a single role to get there. I am sure someone will make some argument about "It means that the most strategically adept team would win because they were willing to use dropships; let my role manner!" Though the counter to that is "one person calling in a dropship one time to get a huge advantage that often won the match is not high strategy and requires no SP in dropships so it can hardly be called a role."
I like Fracture Road a lot more. It is now the bloodiest slugfest on Domination, on par with beta Manus Peak Ambush. Like the Gallente Research Facility, it localizes everyone to an area to fight but unlike the Research Facility it doesn't devolve into "we got there first!" nearly as often. Dropships are still useful as you can drop guys on the enemy pipes to take out their Uplinks and guys. Sure they can drop from the MCC and run back but that is slowing them down critically.
Impact Ridge is one I agree with. The closer red line is useful for the side that comes in on the hill because before a single railgun tank could stop the enemy team from calling in ANY vehicle. I could sit there and take free pot shots as the RDV came in with nearly nothing the enemy could do about it. In truth, just changing the layout slightly so that doesn't happen as easily was all that was needed. With the small map, whoever sets up at the point first pretty much instantly redlines the opponents. It is not fun for anyone when you can't get out of your red line without dying and the enemy isn't really enjoying sitting there trying to find people to shoot.
Fracture Road was a very positive change that has made the map more balanced. Impact Ridge has been made a lot more static but hasn't changed the fact that it has always been a one sided stomp.
