Hello in collaborative efforts with community and raising awareness with this thread https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2487226#post2487226 (please put very specific feedback there about current colors and other options I will monitor that thread as well for future and past suggestions)
After looking at the upcoming time tables I have enough time to squeeze this in and work on it before going back to the vehicle feedback which I am still formulating and cleaning up.
So here is how I do my process on demonstrating new colors to which you are more than welcome to try to self if you have the capabilities of a visual editing software such as the very free GIMP to the cheapish Painter Sai to the exuberantly expensive Photoshop.
Step 1 Find a good tracing target by the wonderful dust 514 art team http://i.imgur.com/OHJaIqT.jpg
Step 2 For the sake of time do a trace of the head (can do full body later) for you guys you can just steal this one as well. http://i.imgur.com/xOXRy4W.jpg
While not everything translates into lines that well you must at least separate all the material divides (ie where metal meets leather for example) by a line at minimal rest of the lines I threw in as a guide for later.
Step 3 Is to make a gradient layer to make things look nice and awesome for you guys you can just steal the one I made. http://i.imgur.com/lter2ET.jpg
Step 4 Open your favorite visual editing software. Import the line work on top of gradient layers use the crosshairs in the lower left to align the two if all goes well only the white dot should be mostly visible.
Step 5 Create a new layer and place it either above the line work or below line work your choice but it must be above the gradient; once done you can now hide the gradient layer to prevent editing to it and use the line work as a guide to filling in; if your software doesn't allow using line work on other layers to constrain the bucket option copy the linework layer instead but keep the original.
Step 6 Go to town on the paint bucket; don't worry about filling in some lines (which is why the line work is separate) it also does not have to be perfect; the gradient and next step corrects for alot of this.
Here is my bucket work did a boring red vs blue theme as you can see plenty of white spots and plenty of imperfections. http://i.imgur.com/aujQVJol.jpg
Step 7 Set your color layer to overlay; unhide gradient layer and enjoy the semi hard work you've done. http://i.imgur.com/qEuxEcd.jpg
Step 8 Explore! Copy your color layer and apply other types of filters and use your eraser to remove parts to don't want to create higher gleam, camo, or other effects. Or use two different color layers with different colors and erase between the two.
Step 9 Add lights errr... little complicated and takes time.
If you do not have the complex software just upload your flats and I can get them imported in for you. Or Find inspiration from elsewhere out there and I see if I can translate them in. General time to make a single one of these colors now that the base work is done is about 1 minute; time to upload and link and save the file is much longer.
FAQ Will any of these become official colors? The chances are higher than normal so give it a try and see what happens; the better or more awesome it looks the higher the chances. This is by no means an official event maybe we can work something to make it official.
Will you be doing other races? Yes; amarr is the first one due to the popularity, Caldari will be next.
Will you be doing full bodies? No for the sake of time heads only.

plenty of time; far as I am concerned there is no time limit; we can keep pushing new color suggestions onto the team as an ongoing process. I am just getting a laying down a foundation and asking for you guys to help out a bit where you can.

Maitue Mae wrote:What resources would you want us to use to make the Gradient and Traces of all the suits?
Generally 1 layer with line work saved as a decent sized JPG or PNG
Generally 1 layer with the gradient (no lines) that are within the linework at the same size of the line work art also saved JPG or PNG.
Line work should be the thinnest possible; with greater emphasis on material separation (individual plates vs lines in the plates)
I have every intention of doing all of them on my own though so eventually they will all get done. Just some suits will be more interesting than others due to the available snaps and art I could work with.

I am liking the one I linked but I am fearful natural lighting will drown the colors out too much to be notable on the field so a stronger bolder one may be needed from your filtered one.
