The problem isn't the matchmaking system that is largely working as intended and what it was built for.
If your concern is the "New Player" In DUST... Matchmaking standard public matches makes absolutely no sense in any further thought.
Trying to have a computer program artificially separate new players from vets and then match them based on that is a fools errands unless your Valve. And Even Valves Matchmaking system is flawed in many ways.
CCP and the New Eden galaxy has always been a place of choices and risk vs reward.
New players need a Militia game mode. heck, all of DUST needs it.
Militia Items need to stop registering players skills, So that everyone can participate and que up for the game mode.
Then when new players join the public matches, they would WANT to buy Standard items and suits atleast so their skills register on the items they are using... Giving everyone more competitive matches in normal pubs.
Militia Game mode doesn't have to give out much ISK reward... new players only need to really buy skill books and stock up some ISK for public matches. Also stops the grinding of the game mode by vets as the time vs reward is limited. But allow a fun game mode for vet's to try out their true skill ability, offering new players some challenging opponents but on a more even playing field so they can get accustomed to DUST, aswell as Vet's getting the challenge of competing in a game mode where Skill points play a new non existent part in the victor.
As far as squads queing for public matches... This is a team based game. We have social tools in this game that don't exist in nearly every other FPS on console. We have Corporations, Friend chat channels, Squad finder, Awesome voice support.. Facing squads and groups of enemies is a Staple of this game.. Trying to make DUST's Public matches into a Solo only ruins most of the very foundation of this game... Most people are here because they have gained friendship in the game.. Not because they need that 50,000th kill. or that extra skill. Competing against Squads of Imperfectz, Pink Fluffy Bounty Hunterz, UnReal... ETC is what made the current generation of slayers running around DUST... It's part of the learning curve.
Can the beginning of DUST's learning curve be tailored a bit more around new players so they stick around and bring more success to DUST? HELL YEAH, EVERYONE THAT HAS HAD A REAL LIFE FRIEND THEY TRIED TO GET INTO DUST SAYS THAT TO CCP. |
