General Armor Tanker Advice:
COVER COVER COVER. You have great passive reps. Abuse it. Strafe in and out of cover, and don't be afraid to take damage. You never stop repping.
Learn to respect HMG's and CR's. They are Armor shredding nightmares. If you see a ScR or AR, RUSH THE DUDE. You can tank the damage long enough to kill him if you are running damage mods.
Gallente Assault Advice:
Just because your'e a Gal Assault, it doesn't mean that you can't use speed mods. As some Gallente loyalist said in one thread "Arkena is more of a CreoDron guy. Lots of tank and rep. I'm more of a Duvolle. Fast, and aggressive." Don't be pulled into the HP King Armor Sterotype. You have low slots, so try and mix it up with some Kincats or Damps from time to time.
Experiment with the different Gallente weapons. Burst AR's are great when you get a feel for the rhythm, and this also holds true for the Tac AR. The Tac AR on a high rep suit at range can be very deadly, so long as you abuse cover.
That hipfire dispersion also applies to shotguns...... just saying. Remember those low slots? Pack on 2 damps, 2 speed, and a ferroscale. Throw on a shotgun with damage mods and give it a go, it's more fun that you think.
Having trouble with heavies? Plasma Cannon. Seriously. It's practically a OHK. Sprint in, tank the damage for a split second and pop one in half.
Ion Pistol is actually a fantastic sidearm. It has accurate hipfire on a Proto Assault, and can pack quite the punch when charged. Never open with a charge shot. Spam shots until they are low on health. If they duck behind cover, charge the shot and drop them. Charge is also fantastic at removing scouts, IF you can aim.

Dat feeling when you know where that quote comes from  That was Kirk, saying that Arkena is fine with being slow and tanky while "Me and cat are fast and aggressive". Im more like a Kaalakiota. Great at killing...if i have a massive height and distance advantage XD
