((A'ight. True, your explanation interests me.
How should I go about getting involved? Fair warning, though - I am probably terrible at RP.))

((True is literally DUST RP king and I've known him for years. So...
I have a few questions. This is sort of an age of exploration era thing with weird and wacky technologies, yes? Are skyships a thing? What technology development are we really thinking here? How common is RP PvP?
Secondly, proposed model:
Lost British Imperialists
Strength: Industry and Ship operation
Weakness: Rebellions
Base Terrain: Islands that are constantly overcast and rainy
Strength Terrain: Oceans x3
Weakness Terrain: Mountains, tundra, thick jungle
Rules wrote: 9) You get 3 types: your base terrain, your strength terrain(s), and your weakness terrain(s). You get 1 base terrain, 3 strengths, and 3 weaknesses.
I have chosen Oceans three times as a strength terrain. Is it acceptable to have this as a stacking bonus? As in, 'fight me on oceans and **** off because it's a second Trafalgar'?
Secondly, what are the rules on limitations for non-terrain Strengths and Weaknesses?
I recognise this is more about the RP than the details, but I'd like to do it properly nonetheless.))

((Another player has entered the game!
Country Name: Thaeton Capital: Kayikx Population: Small Borders: Island nation, central island in island cluster Cultural Focus: Inventors and navigators Religious Focus: Atheism Current System of Governance: Democracy Culture: Clannish groups arising out of the natural separation of the islands in the homeland. The islands have a rivalry with each other. Huge emphasis on invention, engineering, and discovering the unknown in Thaeton culture. Capital Terrain: Floating Islands* Terrain Strengths: Aerial, Mountainous, Ocean Terrain Weaknesses: Volcanic x3 (utterly intolerable for Thaetons), tundra Country Terrain Strengths: Highly defensible due to isolation Country Terrain Weaknesses: Agricultural difficulties due to industrial development and lack of suitable farmland, isolation means ground trade is difficult Resource Strengths: Immense deposits of metals and helium Resource Weaknesses: Lack of food
*Floating islands - not -exactly- floating, but are essentially large islands at high altitude supported by spurs of rock. Some islands -are- floating, but none of the main islands are. Something like this: http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs51/f/2009/263/a/b/floating_island_by_molybdenumgp03.jpg where only the very small islands actually float. Justified by weirdness with the curiously polarised metal deposits and the magnetic field in the area.
The area is very mountainous and difficult to settle with the exception of the island plateaus and ground plateaus. This means that finding farmland is very difficult.
I'll go ahead and do some backstory now.
The Thaetons were always an inventive people. Their difficult land made the quest for easier ways of doing things a necessity rather than a luxury. Surrounded by natural phenomena, and given motivation to invent, science and invention boomed. However, the Thaetons were a fractious lot for a long time - each island was by its nature very isolated from its neighbours, with contact requiring a difficult climb down the vast cliffs under each island and then another one up into the other island. This made trade difficult.
This changed with the discovery of a strange gas in the mines beneath the island of Kayikx. A fascinated scientist experimented with these gases and found that they seemed to be lighter than the air itself. Later, an engineer created a basic craft which succeeded in delivering a letter to another island. This discovery stimulated the Thaetons across all the islands - if such crafts could be built, could larger ones be built for people? Could the islands trade between each other in significant quantities for the first time in their history? The headstart that the island of Kayikx had proved telling in the subsequent race to build the first skyship. This ship, dubbed Voyager, managed to carry a crew of three to another island.
The creation of skyships revolutionised the Thaetons - free trade and travel quickly followed, and the islands united under one government - based on Kayikx, given its socio-economic significance as the first developer of skyships. Though skyships were dangerous craft, they had firmly captured the dreams of the Thaetons and living as they did, few had any fear of heights as it was.
Now the eyes of the Thaetons turn outwards, beyond their borders. For exploration of the unknown has always been a tenet of all the island peoples, and skyships have opened the way.
The skyships used by the Thaetons look more like this than this.
This is down to a few things. Firstly, they haven't discovered steam or mass metalworking yet, so much of the second style's lower portion is out, and they don't have gunpowder sufficient for weaponry yet. This limits them to sails. Secondly, the location of the air balloons tends to be more inside the hull for protection - like this but with a vastly lower technology level - wood and sails. Thirdly, these are not immense craft, yet. Most skyships are smaller craft, with the largest crew being under 100 so far. This will rapidly change, but it's not starting out like that.
So. Small floating wooden tradeships. Onwards!
I'll do a first contact thing with an exploration ship wandering out into the vast unknown tomorrow. ))

((Hm. I think we could improve on this with more information?
I'd like to offer to create a map. If everyone posts details of their territories or draws their own territory, I can make a cohesive map populated with random landmasses (rather than the ridiculous amount of ocean currently present) and leave some unknown areas for people yet to join.))

((So, uh, Raven's map isn't massively helpful. So I know what Spade's lands are like. Who do those coloured islands to the east belong to? Can anyone tell me what the other landmasses are?
Can someone just give me an overview of the world? Then I can educate myself on what's where.))
