I think EVE has always been the focus of Fanfest. There were DUST players there, of course, and there will be some next year, but Fanfest is predominantly EVE players, and I think the Legion keynote clearly catered to them, not us. I think the roundtables CCP had about DUST and Legion before were a lot more informative than anything said in a keynote, and I expect there to be good information at any such roundtables. I don't believe we need a media circus around our game right now.
And personally, I'm pushing for them to get the most important information out the door as soon as possible, rather than holding it for a Fanfest event. In my mind, not having a big keynote event to hold information for is a good thing for players. Unfortunately, not everyone is going to see it that way.

It's stated that that dust/legion is not planned to show case any major information at fanfest as last year's debacle is a testament of over hyping and under delivering what the dust community expected.
What I do believe will be roundtable events for both dust and legion as rouge and ratatiti will be there... so expect something to be released in a quiter manner that will keep us happy.

Shuffling stats around and releasing long since back dated content doesn't make for a very thrilling presentation, so I agree with you completely.

I understand this, Legion probably wont be anything until the end of the next year and they want to go in a stasis until that happens for next fanfest.
Just one of the problems I have One is the overcharged and the seemingly constant confusion of what the long term plan is. Shortly after the release hearing about specialized AA tanks to next year over about reduction of development down to hotfixes and then seeing a resumption of it in a limited form, to reimplementation of the BPOs.
On the whole, CCP likes to explain their development process like a company board meeting rather than a exciting game development company. Which I understand, they have a long idealized list of reasons why Eve and it's extensions should fit a certain criteria. Although as much time as they build up talking to the playerbase on changes and seeking consulting, they let things disappear and talk it down without much explanation of the implications it has in the roadmap. That level of audacity reminds me of a game company doing a paid EA game, letting it be hammered out for the next 4 years and think that it will generate hype while fireproofing it under the guise of being a Alpha...You know thinking back on it Dust could have qualified for that anyway.
Don't think about that, think about all the money.

Very pleased that the hype machine is being unplugged now.
Fanfest 2015 is likely going to be all about Valkyrie anyway, especially if Katee Sackhoff rocks up like she said she would.
Besides, as anyone that's been to Fanfast will tell you, the much more interesting stuff is in the Roundtables and discussion with the Devs in the pubs.

Could this be the new CCP? The Rouge (and Rattati) CCP? Could this be the kind of CCP we need (and the one we deserve) where real content, after hearing customer input, will be presented when ready instead of big dreams of visions yet to pass featured in glossy trailers way before they even know if they can create what they present?

Fanfest is for fans of CCP Games, not just EVE. In the past it has held sections for WoD as well as Dust, and of course Valkyrie. It's simply EVE-focused because its their only truly healthy game.
Content to keep PS3 Dust alive a little bit longer is important because it keeps their studio from being laid off, and the sooner you can force that information out of them the better. But the only thing thats going to truly stop the bleeding is *drum roll* PS4 Dust. Not Legion, which is bullshit vaporware that will probably never be completed. And if it was completed, it would be on such a timetable that the engine is no longer relevant. You should be working to convince Rouge of his folly, or your game is done. We both know I'm right, so make it happen.
It's my fault FA exists. Direct your rage to me.

I, personally, believe it was a mistake to not show anything about Legion in the spotlight (a keynote presentation would be ideal but not even a smaller side presentation?). Its all about building awareness!
As a studio I cannot believe that Rouge and Rattati would have preferred it this way. You absolutely do not pass up a chance at showing off your work and building at least some hype for your game, especially after the disaster that was last year.
No, if I was rouge I would be right back up there asap to show off my shiny new assets, because then it helps justify why I talked about it in FF2014 and watched the world burn for the next 6 weeks after.
No... the lack of info about Legion was definitely an upper management decision imo. Either that or Shanghai is just displaying incompetence. Its certainly possible, they refuse to discuss anything about the game atm after all.
I can understand making way for Valkyrie... so that could explain a lack of keynote address. But there are enough additional presentations that they could have squeezed a single presentation in.

Besides, as anyone that's been to Fanfast will tell you, the much more interesting stuff is in the Roundtables and discussion with the Devs in the pubs. A secret shared in a room of 100 people is still a secret to the DUST community, though 100 people is a fairly decent portion of our community *zing!* But I am being honest; if the information is only for those that are in the room, that are wearing their oh-so wonderful uniforms, it might as well not be released for the purpose of the rest of us. Most of us will not be at FanFest. What 'good' is it to have a roundtable when the majority of the community may never, ever see it?
Understand how this looks from the other side. Soraya mentioned that "it can be difficult because you would want to defend CCP because you know something that others don't so that extra information leads your statement" (thanks for posting, by the way!) which is very understandable. "CCP isn't doing anything for us!!!" "What do this joker mean, 'nothing'? 1.9 is coming and... oh, right." For me, this looked less like "the hype factory is being shutdown" and rather "we have nothing to say about Legion or DUST."
Again, the fact might be that CCP has already mentioned "we are trying to find a way to announce Legion" or at the least the CPM probably has good reason to not worry about "no announcement" because of other information. I truly understand and firmly believe that all y'all are saying "TELL THE PLAYERS!" about so many things if not to stem our fears then because we bug the HELL out of you with DM's on twitter about "hey, just this once, break NDA" (I am sure you have been asked) but our hope and optimism starts to turn into paranoia and regret. Something you wanted to happen not happening is bad. Something you were hoping against reason, the true underdog of all things and the faith you put into?
When that goes south, it is pretty much the emotional equivilant of stepping on a bear trap.

That solid thunk you hear was another nail being hammered in Dust's coffin.
Even wore is the idea that there are no announcements for Legion. In under a year od development they had a crude demo being played on the screen. In a year since then the thought that they have nothing to show for it is well, damning to say the least.
The pub crawl thing is bit funny though. Could you imagine going to iceland, getting next to no info about dust or legion, and drinking with the CPM Rouge and Rattati while EVE players and Valkyrie players talk about the new promsing features coming out in during the next 12 months....
Valkyrie Pilots:
"that new valkirie demo was awesome"
"that was my first time trying the occulus rift"
"aw snap got a new headset ordered today son!"
EVE
"those new EVE ships look cool. Listen, we got to strategize over taking out the other alliance"
"Yeah dude lets talk it out at the pub later"
"that presentation was amazing, not what i expected"
DUST514
" uh... hi"
"oh hello CPM, uh nice quafe suit danny?
Valkyrie and EVE
"Dust? You still alive man? didn't see a presentation, whats up with lol Legion"
That would be unbearable...

^ Basically the result of me being at EVE Vegas this year. "That game is still around?" was basically the question of the night. Thought it was funny talking to people, mentioning things I didn't like about X, and having them be "let me see your name tag" so they could hunt me down and kill me in EVE. My response every time:
"I am a DUST player. What could you do to me that CCP has not already done?"
Let's hope that it is just a "we are not hyping it and just going to release information as we have it" rather than "we have no information" or "we don't want to let out the stinky turd-fart that is DUST and Legion at an otherwise wonderful event." As with everything with this game, we can only wait and see.

New content is highly unlikely.
If anything, they may finish the minmatar outpost (cargo hub) but I doubt it.
With the competition of Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen around, CCP must aim to keep their EVE customers happy, or they will have a major headache in 1-2 years.
Dust will go on like now, until the Aurum sales decline, or the deal with sony is fulfilled. After that...

but seeing as DUST, Legion, Valkyrie are all part of the franchise you would think they'd be included in the company's annual press conference. its like if Sony did an E3 presentation and left out any announcements for the Vita, yeah the PS4 is their primary money maker but the Vita is still a part of the business
