As you all know, Dust 514 is developed, iterated and maintained by the CCP Shanghai office.
It is a multicultural team from all over the world, headlined by those Dev's familiar to us, Rouge, Rattati, Frame etc, etc. But of course due it's location, a lot of the team is Chinese. And as its part of their way of workplace culture, having their name in the credits of the game is enough for them in terms of recognition.
Being part of the CPM however means that we see just how hard they work, for instance the recent 1.9 frame rate optimisation was was due to one of these guys. Rattati and Frame encourage them to post but it's just not their style.
So, I thought it might be a nice thing to do for these unsung heroes, for us as a community to thank them directly here in a thread where Rattati and Frame can point them to to know their work is appreciated.
So I like to thank them for the little bits of coding magic that Rattati tells the CPM that they've managed to pull off, for the work they've done, do and for that to come in the future.
Cheers guys!!!!

Can't believe he difference replacing the thermal paste and making sure it had full contact over the full surface area of the CPU and GPU has made to mine. But I digress...

The game has been improving. You guys seem to have chosen an actual direction to run in and it is definitely showing the quality of what you are capable of when there is a focus, proving a lot of the more obnoxious posters wrong.
Thanks for keeping at it and I look forward to the day when the opinion at large is that DUST/LEGION join EVE in the roster of games that improve and become awesome in their own merits rather than in the minds of a few like me.
You're making it happen. Thanks for vindicating our stubborn insistence that DUST is capable of being awesome.
Keep at it.

Dust, to me, is like a puppy. Yes it might **** on the floor, rip up your shoes, attempt to bite of a limb or two and generally drive you insane, but it'll grow on you and you'll eventually love it to bits, and sometimes even, it'll surprise you, achieving the extraordinary and show even though it wasn't the most expensive, pure bred or best well brought up dog, but it's one of a kind and dosen't need these things to do so.
So great job Shanghai dev team, you all are amazing, and as such, should at least all get a bpo, aurum or officer wepon named after every single one of you.
P.S.
Please bring back the Dev battles as well, I'd love to kill you with your own weapons! :D

maybe you could get them to move the instant battle button to some place we can use it more quickly?
its only available when ALL screens are closed. even when you start the game, you have to close the update screen to access it. is there a button they could remap instant battle to, so we can use from any screen? its not important, it's just a UI improvment
and if we could get options for the mini map, that would be great too. i want to be able to choose what i see. i dont need to see blue berries everywhere, or their equipment spam when im trying to spawn on a squad mates uplink, or even when trying to place squad orders and i cant see cause of all the blue berries. itd be nice if there were filter options |

Thanks to them of course. Have gained experience on the nerves and hopes players. Maybe now they have enough experience that would fix the old mistakes and not to make new ones? Buy them omega boosters and let gain experience faster.

As someone who codes in his spare time, I know enough to realize just how impressive this game is from a technical standpoint. The PS3's cell architecture is notoriously difficult to program for. Given the history of poor management decisions, reallocating resources to other projects, switching engines, and working on a tiny budget with a small team the results are very impressive. o7 guys.
One thing makes me scratch my head though. I don't understand why implementing a rubber-band proof AFK detection system is so difficult. Just poll controller outputs every 10 seconds or so. If outputs are constant from the previous check, set an AFK_Suspicion flag to true and poll that character every second for 10 seconds. If all outputs are still constant, suicide the character and boot them from the match.
Best PvE idea ever!

what changed?
A year ago Shanghai would take our opinions, scrap them, then do there own thing. Wether this was miscommunications by CCP heads to Shanghaii about what we were talking about or they simply disagreed with the community - idk.
But there has always been a lot of dislike for the Shanghai staff and there lack of communication, and I really haven't seen that change, only Rat pushing things to get things done. They have always been working on this game - they're the people who are the reason hills sink, nades fall threw ground, RDV's deploy still wacky, and the many other basic glitches that no other company would of found acceptable being in there game.
But not to sound completely negative - they seem like a cool bunch in the HTFU video, lol. |

Cultural differences make communication difficult.
Most Asian countries in general are usually not terribly accepting of feedback, let alone the kind of blunt feedback given from a western audience. Culturally those kind of "complaints" simply don't happen. It's "rude". So naturally, they don't know how to deal with them.
It truthfully takes someone like Rattati to take the feedback, cut through the bullshit and deliver it appropriately to make stuff happen. Before, we had community managers like Saberwing. Saberwing was a good guy but when you have to go through a community manager you run into problems like "I can mention this to the dev, but should I really bother him about it too much? I do like my job."
Whereas with Rattati its "This is what we're going to do, I'm going to go tell them this is what needs to happen and in two weeks it will happen."
How things happen with Rattati now is similar to how things use to happen with EVE in the very early days. No community managers, just straight dev-to-community interaction. Things get done faster this way.
It's my fault FA exists. Direct your rage to me.

You've brought me almost two years of enjoyment with Dust, and that's something that only a few games in my life have ever achieved -- usually I'm on to the next game, but Dust has kept my interest for this long and that's saying a lot.
The reason why I play Dust is because it reminds me of MAG alot. Even the factions. Dust may not have 256 players but if Legion could pull of a Domination just like MAG with not only 256 players but with 512 mercs = OMG soo many OB's, Dropships, HAV, LAV, ect....
MAG Raven vet 7 times. Favorite weapon F90 and Highest Kills 78 and 23 deaths.

Kevall Longstride wrote:As you all know, Dust 514 is developed, iterated and maintained by the CCP Shanghai office.
Honestly they are lucky to have Rattati around, without him they was lost. They doing great job right now and i will be glad if they sent us some info by themselves ;)

You don't need to apologize for the finicky grammar and sentence structure of English. Your English is by far better than most posters mandarin.
