It's a stupid mess, but there's England, Britain=England+Wales, Great Britain=Britain+Scotland while the United Kingdom=Great Britain+isles+Northern Ireland+Any other territory like the Falklands.

One last thing: One could make the argument that "British" isn't actually a culture, but a culture group to which the cultures English, Welsh and Scottish belong to.
