A flamethrower would be a silly weapon for Dust. For one, we fight in dropsuits that are likely rated for reentry. You know, 'drop'suits. A flamethrower would be a tickle compared to what flies out of assault rifles (superheated plasma and all that). Heck, heavies can survive plasma cannons and those are giant balls of the same stuff assault rifles fire. Flamethrower, psh, more like marshmellow toaster. |

that aside i think there may be room for a gallente heavy weapon either a blast of hot plasma with splash.. like a faster chargeup but dmg/splash akin to mass driver..
or a BEAM of plasma to cook the clone inside his suit  think oversized laser rifle

amarr use light through focusing crystals where as plasma is just the 4th state of matter which is basically super hot gases

i can fully admit i fear when there is dmg modded amarr commandos(L5) useing proto LR's.. they literally MELT you at long range.. but they are nicely balanced at CQB thus switching to ASCR or SCR for maximum close/med PEWPEW to make up for the LRs shortfall..

essentially the only problem with flamers is the particle effect.. where as the actual damage applicator can be a solid on the end of the gun so to say but non physical and transparent and work just like an LR for its damage application.. where as heat builds on the recipiant the mroe damage they recive

I'd rather have a Minmatar equivalent of the Laser Rifle.
A gun that shoots a thin stream of molten metal.
Have it travel in an arc and leave residual pools of molten metal that cause damage until it cools.
Similar increased damage while firing like the laser rifle, metal does more damage as it continues to heat up while firing. I think it should have more base damage than the laser rifle, and a slower heat-damage build up. No sweet spot like the LR though, just a simple damage fall off like all the other weapons, makes sense that the stream does less damage over distance as it cools.
Maybe have a few variants?
Basic variant fires a continuous stream and does moderate direct and residual pool damage. Gradual heat build-up.
Breach like variant, fires a short burst stream of superheated molten metal. Does high direct and residual pool damage. Overheats after a few burst streams.
Assault variant fires a stream significantly straighter and thus further than the others, does less direct and residual pool damage. Chalk it up to using a metal that's thinner when molten so it travels further and melts at a lower temperature so it does less damage as it isn't as hot.
Call it the Magma Caster.
The Lava Gun in Ratchet & Clank was similar-ish to this.
Of course I'm sure it's beyond the realm of possibility of anything like this ever being added to Dust.
