I am used to afkers but this is getting redic.

bro just report all the names of the afk players who you know or with out much reasonable doubt think are just afk isk farming.. ccp will come down on em HARD.. harder then the mjolnir when it smacks a B.

I agree that AFKing is a problem in the game but the problem with a minimum WP threshold before payout is new players.
I'm someone who still runs starter fits and there are some games that no matter what, it is impossible for a newer player to get into. You can maybe pick up some assists by running with other members of the team but in the starter fits thats it.
The enemy has the objectives and CRUs/Supply depots locked down, at least as concerns getting a solo starter fit through. The needle changes haven't helped this either (although I get that needle spam was annoying more veterans than teams considerately used needles were potentially helping. I am not complaining that these changes were made).
I played a match on Border Gulch the other day where half a dozen players from each team (myself included) had staked out the opponents default spawn point and were massacring anyone who spawned in in what became a race to see who'd clone out first. In the end there were at least 6 people on each team who had gone something like 0\15 with 0 WP.
As harsh as that is they shouldn't be rewarded with nothing. At least they were trying to get into the game (their inability to do so is something I've posted about elsewhere). Simple WP gained is therefore not necessarily a fair way to do it. Maybe the fact that they have had some deaths or something should also count in their favour over those that simply rubber band and AFK?
As an aside, this also doesn't address the equally damaging for the team technique of a bunch of logis throwing down hives in the redline and running around them shooting at nothing to build up WP for the whole battle. |

AFKing is a way of life. You cannot tell people how to play their game. It's like telling an assault not to assault, a scout not cloak, or a heavy not to be a meat grinder. AFKing has been nerfed so far its time for a buff. It's the one role that never gets any love but we will not give up.

One guy had an AFK set up where he was spinning around in a tiny circle. I pushed him out of the MCC and to his death, I think he went 0/14. Pretty fun.
That said, I am AFK'ing a fair amount this week. I am doing an experiment where I will AFK 1/2 the time, and actually play the other 1/2, and am tracking my salvage by game mode and AFK status. It's been long rumored you get more salvage the less you actially do, so I'm testing that. Will report my results when the event is over.

Also: Don't bother reporting AFK players. It's not a bug/exploit or boosting, so nothing will happen. Like Snugglz said, it used to be a way of life. You could drop into the Oceania server and see a who's who of Dust chillin' in the MCC some afternoons.
Now that all us vets have 40-50+ million SP, respecs for AUR, and a few hundred million ISK it's really not that big a deal, but when the arms race was really going and it was skill into the next FoTM or die, it was considered a good way to cap out easier when you have a work/school project to do at home and not enough time to actually play.

I'm a newer player and its hard to get WP's with all of the players running proto gear. I'm at standard on everything and just use militia gear most of the time with a few exceptions and its possible to get kills but its HARD

My deaths? 407
Why? No skills. No proto gear and NO ISK...how the hell do you make ISK in this game!? I think that AFK'ing stuff is nonsense, its selfish and poor sportsmanship but HOW DO YOU MAKE MONEY IN THIS GAME TO AFFORD $50,000 isk+ weapons!? |

When starting out an any character I go logi (even on basic frames). Utilise the equipment for easy WP....
*Get Uplinks to level 3 & Rep Tool to level 3 (or 4 for Triage Rep Tool).
*Make some uplink spam fits, so you can cover 3 objectives with links (there's a thread detailing how to do this effectively somewhere around here).
*Make an armour tanked rep tool fit (keep it under 10K ISK, under 5K is preferable).
*If you can afford it, buy a DLC pack that contains a BPO LAV! This will also give you some BPO (non-consumable) weapons to make your suits cheaper.
*Always try to be in a squad... If you enter a battle without a squad, before you spawn - PRESS SELECT, GOTO TEAM CHAT & JOIN AN OPEN SQUAD.
*USE A HEADSET!
*If necessary, ask for help in local (someone may have a spot for you if you're looking for a squad or be able to advise in some way), but don't beg for ISK. When I have empty spots I don't mind having inexperienced players fill the slots, the trouble is... they rarely ever use mics, so usually only get tolerated for a few matches.

A time limit on how long you spent in the mcc would go some way to helping, I'm sure.
I've spent the past week hunting out the spawn points afk players use. I was in a match the other day where there were 6-8 of us killing the afk mercs as they spawned in. With the number of afk guys they had, the enemy team didn't get the objective, and we got their mcc right down and almost cloned them. |
