I have some quick questions about the Dropsuit fitting requirements at large.
- Should a Prototype Dropsuit be able to fit all prototype modules?
- Should a Dropsuit be able to be fitted solely with modules of the same tier?
I ask because I have heard talk (previously and present) about how tight fitting gets when you try to fit many prototype mods on one suit, and I wanted to know the "official" stance on this. I personally believe that no dropsuit should be able to fit "All Pro everything", because that drastically limits the number of competitive choices from the battlefield. If I had to put a number on it, as an upper bound, I would say that no more than half of a dropsuit's modules should be at Proto. The rest should be a mix between ADV and STD, moderately favoring STD.
But my opinion doesn't matter. Yours does.

When we redesigned the Sentinel and Assault PG/CPU, it was based on the average cost of the same tiered modules and the count of those slots. That was the foundation, and then we tweaked it from there.
If you are using low capacity modules, lower than average, it is quite likely that you can fit all proto. That's how we can balance by increasing the fitting cost and not just power.
With full core skills, you can fit even more.

Kinda wish we had more options as far as fitting goes. Specialized damage type resistances would be a good start.

How much do you take into account all the skills that reduce the CPU or PG? And I know at least in some cases getting a skill-áto level 5 has no effect (certain suits have no reason to get Dropsuits Core Upgrades to V, certain weapon groups have no reason to get Optimization to V). I know it can be really tricky trying to examine all of this as there are so many possibilities, just something I noticed.
Personally, as far as fitting goes, I'm in the group that prefers not being able to proto everything even when maxed out. I was able to do this with a few suits (for their current safety I'll withhold) and the removal of that degree of decision making was actually a bit upsetting. However, when I run my Amarr scout with every possible bit of optimization, I still have to decide which modules I want proto and which are acceptable at advanced. Mind you, I run it with biotics and ewar. Still having to make decisions makes whatever I do decide to run proto feel more specialized. Just my opinion.

First of all, thank you for the quick reply. Secondly, would you mind explaining the part in bold again? Are you talking about increasing the fitting cost of average/lower than average modules? Or something else.
In addition, what do you consider an "Average cost"?. I'm looking for some ballpark numbers, like "Approximately 30CPU and 4PG" or "One Complex Regulator". Just something that I can wrap my mind around. If that's undesirable, I'm sure I could do some averaging myself and figure out a reasonable estimate for the average module fitting cost.

That would be unsuited to the FPS model of relatively quick kills. Different tanking modes are already chaotic enough. Adding even more variance will just add to the random nature of encounters of the battlefield.
Then again, this heavily depends on if we are talking about organized play or public matches. I'd wager that such module could spice up high-level play, but they are completely ******** for games full of randoms. There is no fun in running into a guy who is coincidentally tanked up against your specific damage type, to the point of feeling almost immune. Especially if they aren't a Sentinel or if they use a weapon that is coincidentally good against your own tanking type. |
