If youGÇÖre a veteran player (meaning you were on Dust before its 5/14 release, and when there was NO available assister) you had time to work on your shooting skills without any Aim Assist options at all in the game. The Dust Aim-Assist was not built to address any PS3 controller designs, or even the game mechanics of Dust itself. Weekend-gamers, casual-users, leisure-shooter enthusiasts who just like discovering and unwinding in a game, in addition to Newberrys, all were getting slaughtered in Dust's gameplay, and pushed out of any chance to just kick-back and enjoy the game. Aim-Assist was crafted to address ALL these above kinds of players and give them an GÇ£equalizingGÇ¥ situation: a little bias to help the weak-skilled, some slipperyness to allow stubborn aimers to unconsciously override the auto-aim, the ability to still let vets operate with theirs completely turned off if they want to and not get utterly castrated by players operating with theirs ON. The result is an "aim assister" that forces everyone to get SOME merciful chance to get shot, or at least be shoot-able, by everyone else, whether they have time to become ace at the game, or not much time to practice at all. Ground-breaking. Dangerous. And to many players, #+^*#) cool!
But the debate for and against this thing was fought LONG ago. FightGÇÖs over. Many new players, or players who werenGÇÖt here prior to the Aim Assist arrival, donGÇÖt even know how it works, or what precisely about it they presume they need to argue about---they only know theyGÇÖre getting shot by players they usually enjoyed spitting on in other fps games, OR they only feel the Aim Assist GÇ£fightingGÇ¥ their aim as they try using it and donGÇÖt know GÇ£whatGÇÖs wrong with this BS thing?GÇ¥
But that smoke has all cleared long ago. Dust has Aim-Assist, with no further attempts to re-explain why to players. The only smiling sympathy they now give to you is the option to switch it OFF if you want. Mmmmmmm, like I said,... *#^%# cool.
You keep saying "Switching Aim assist off"
Please goto Options and turn it "Off" and then go test. It does nothing.... Your still tracking and hitting targets with a near lock on feature.
It's like switching the option for "Texture Effect Detail" From High to medium to Low in the options... It Does nothing.
Aim assist in Destiny is cool.. It's a 1 shot headshot scenario.. Casual players will never get that speedy twitch instinctive aiming down to do that with any consistency.
Thats why they put AA in Halo and CoD like games.
DUST is a game where people have different skills, Health, Suits, Resistance values.. All of that is largely made moot when everything dies in seconds because of Aim assist.
You then come to DUST and realize when you put your crosshairs over target your crosshairs light up... And your hitting at near 100% accuracy... Much like how it works on Grand Theft Auto 5. Your little Aiming dot goes Red? You can now get your headshot.
There is no going to a wall and spraying it with your gun.. seeing how your gun recoils and firing your gun to match it's behavior... There is no dynamic hit detection no firing your bullet to have your target side step into it after it is fired...
That doesn't exist in the way DUST's hit detection is done...
It's a "Lock on" Feature. Now? Mix that with Aim assist. You move your crosshair so it turns "Red" ... You are now locked. Aim assist keeps yopu on target for extended period of time and helping your bullets hit at near 100% accuracy.
This is why a Heavy Machine gun can't hit you. Then all of a sudden. You can't be missed and your dead in less then a second.
Fixing the hit detection system or redoing it to a proper FPS hit detection system would of been the route. Not implementing a band aid that conflicts with the game designs to create a feature that is largely hated.
Let alone letting an Aim assist feature be allowed in the End game competitive content... And literally helps to dictate who gets to hold land. This should be based on Player skill and team work. Not who has the most ISK, the most Skill points and the best game performance at that time. |
