No because you can't be a viable scout in this metagame without a cloak.
F*k this cash grab fix the shit that matters: unkillable uplinks, invisible remotes on null cannon hack panels, etc.

Right now people with headphones can tell if someone decloak behind them. I died many times because of decloak sound or knives charging sound.
Ps. Playing any fps without headphones is like playing with disadvantage. In dust it's not that big deal but it always helps. If you want to play a game where hardware gives advantages go play a computer fps.
CCP should not be putting items in game that are impossible to see in standard definition and impossible to hear without good headphones.

Dude, it's like you're saying "Dust display should always scale to 10x10 cm, so people with big a$$ tvs dont have an advantage", thats BS and you know it. Same goes to better microphone, game controler (original DS3 deadzone in dust is about 30% of its space). Hell even if you have a better sofa and food you'll probably play better than someone hungry sitting on the floor.. :P |

As others have already said...the decloak sound plays AFTER the scout has gotten 2 shotgun shots off.
Not only that but the noise around you in a CQC environment can prevent you from hearing the blast as well.
This happens to me ALL the time.
I hear no footsteps...no decloak...

Out of all the bugs in dust I have never ever ran into this problem. I just reviewed my recordings from 1.9 and the sounds always works for me.

Cloak QQ won't stop until it is no longer possible for any weapon to be fired while cloaked; as I just found out in-game a few minutes ago, it's not just the shotgun that can do it. I tested the AR, CR, ScR, and SMG and each one can fire while cloaked. All you got to do is tap the trigger until it starts firing; full-auto weapons won't fire if you just hold down the trigger but if you tap until it starts firing you can then hold down the trigger and it'll keep firing.
I'm surprised Maynard hasn't been assassinated yet.

does not change the fact that a cloaking scout can headshot you for 7xx damage before any sound is played on your end. he can do it twice before cloak animation finishes.
beside that, there is still the bug where no shotgun or cloak sounds are played from a cloaked suit on regular basis.
in short: your point is invalid. |

My point is valid.
And it doesn't really matter how expensive surround sound system you will have. I'd bet that guy with like 20-30$ headphones will hear as much as you. The only difference would be quality of the sound.

I will repeat it just for you, maybe your scrub brain manages to compute it ... you can kill suits before the other player can hear the sound
sounds of cloaked players are often not played

dzizur wrote:yeah.... if only we had different volume sliders for all the voice chat ;)
seriously though, from what I hear on comms, people are rarely even playing in headphones, not to mention listening to music at the same time etc ;P
Its essentially a clash of ideologies. Most players who are upset about the cloak are casuals who sign on for a few hours every now and then to just have some mindless fun and log off. They dont care about their long term record, they dont care about how the community perceives them, all they want is a bit of short term fun and then log off.
Cloak users are for the most part people who take video games seriously. Its what they plan to do their whole life. The only thing that matters to them is self worth and a stat sheet they can show to others or whack off to in private. If all you seek is numbers and a sense of "wow! I can accomplish something!", then turning yourself invisible and going around shooting people in the back is for you.
So its only natural that a cloak user will employ every single advantage in their surrounding gaming area (Fancy headset, darkened room, aftermarket keyboard/controller, steady supply of energy drinks, possible narcotics, ect. A casual user is not going to go through all those steps, because they aren't here to win at all costs and brag, they are just here to put on some music and put a smile on their face.
If casuals get too frustrated by cloaks, they dont go buy a Turtle Beach headset and a case to Redbull to "stop the qq". They will just go play something else. Which prettymcuh solves the cloak problem, because after long enough of it, there wont be any players in this game to hide from anymore. |

Up.
Cloak is used for fun. It's for running around the map and playing cat and mice with redberries.
People who constantly run full proto, and do crazy things just to win, are the ones who take this game too seriously.
Rest of us play for fun. We don't get mad because of lose or any kind of spam. Cuz we have other things on our heads.

One, you don't always hear the sound, as noted.
Two, and more importantly..... please pay attention, this is important for your clouded mind to understand:
It doesn't even matter if it does. WTF do I want to be forced to use headphones to deal with an otherwise totally broken mechanic? I have kids. I need to be able to hear what's going on in the f*cking house. You may be some neckbeard living in your parent's basement with nothing better to do than insulate yourself from your otherwise sad existence with headphones in a dark room, but some of us have actual lives and responsibilities.
What an attractive proposition you are making.... Hey! Don't like cloaks? No worries, just do something else you don't like! Problem solved!
Great solution, dumbass.
Here's a novel idea... fix the broken game mechanic instead. It's a tough concept to understand, I know. Give it time to sink in... we'll wait.

"And if you contrast your TV so all colors are super muted other than blue, you can see all Cloaked Scouts."
I am curious what this has to do about any kind of balance though. If it isn't an option that is open to most everyone, it probably should not be put in the game as a sense of balance. As a person that is favorably described as "damn near deaf", I hate when games do that sound based crap. I had to cheat in Skyrim for non-breaking lockpicks because I can't hear the audio clue that apparently exists even with pricy headphones.

Whether i survive or not, the decloak/footsteps almost always gave me enough warning to get moving. Although it does seem recently if the scout is camped very close and doesn't need to move, just decloak and fire, there's not enough time to turn around.

No, my reaction is, if I need to wear headphones to deal with a broken mechanic that's not a logical solution. Forcing someone to change their physical out of game environment to adjust to an in-game flaw is not justifiable.
If you don't see that then I can't help you.
(p.s. Nice try accusing me of a superiority complex and then saying you only need headphones "if you're bad." Call kettle black much?)

Nobody have to wear headphones to deal with cloaks. And by writing ,,if you're bad,, i mean people that don't use their eyes.
Cuz cloaks aren't hard to spot in towns. They are however hard to spot on open fields when there is strong sunlight. But people complain more about town cloakers.

So,
- There are a fair amount of open spaces in this game, CCP's map designers appear to like them a lot.
- If you don't need headphones to deal with cloaks, why are you suggesting it as a way to deal with them? That's contradictory.

Most of the action is in towns, sentiniels land. Maybe there is also some space for scouts, but not much.
I suggested it because people killed me by hearing me. So others can try it, and if it won't help them, then just play as always.
Nobody here writes straight rules how to play.
