Because dps is valued greater than range, meaning to CCP 10% higher dps is > than 50% range.

besides the breach all other assault rifles can be outperformed by other rifles in CQC.
One of the Non CQC rifles are actually decent and that's the Tactical, but that weapon actually requires some skill so not a lot of people use it.
CCP holds the Caldari's hand so this doesn't happen again.

Problems with the AR in my opinion:
#1: HMG wrecks it in its own optimal. This is a pretty big problem with it.
#2: Combat Rifle is almost as good and has better accuracy and range.
#3: To get any significant accuracy out of the AR you have to ADS. This is horrible because at the ranges the AR is intended to be useful at, ADS is suicidal unless no one is shooting at you.
Disclaimer: I have not tried the burst AR for a long time. The breach AR and Tac AR are in a pretty good place, but the default AR needs something done to it. #3 is its worst problem in my opinion, you are better off with a combat rifle in most situations, and thats the real problem with the AR, other stuff just outclasses it. |

It is, well the breach is anyway.
The Rail Rifle is now a prop that (might) can damage enemies shields, rarely kill.
The Combat rifle seem to be wearing a rusty crown in CQC, if you don't allow the shotgun to take it.
The Scrambler rifle now has a lock on mode called hipfire
The assault rifle has a FotM version called the breach which manages to kill ADV assault at 65m before the Rail Rifle can fire.
all in all the combat rifle is where it should be, the rest are not

Lol so what you take from your own assessment where one rifle obviously stands out is that it is in the proper place... lol. What he means is that the CR needs a nerf in order to bring all of the rifles into a balance state. I vote profile change to 0-5%/0-5% and make it manual reload which will give it its very own balance mechanic.

the burst needs to work more like the CR.. the CR is a dream to use where as the extended burst period on burst AR just feels sluggish slow and unuseable in CQB

It's pretty solid up close. I got tired of getting shotgunned, so I leveled up my Amarr Scout and the AR. I've got a few "scout hunter" fits with stacked precision, a range amp, plates and an AR. It's pretty squishy and is heavily dependent on being close to your friends and having plenty of cover. When a scout tries to sneak up though, it's pretty good at wrecking them in the 30-15m range.
It's biggest drawback is it's profile. Armor has bigger buffers, so anything penalized against it will be inherently worse. That said, it's much better vs. armor than lasers.
Best PvE idea ever!
