Recent boost in activity from CCP/CPM and players .. almost has Dust exciting again... The NPE is the biggest flaw in our system, quite frankly for the fact it doesn't exist New mercs log in to have 4 of THE WORST fittings available.. at their disposal..
Seeing the Mlt store be upgraded was a nice choice Having APEX style fittings for skill building is also a good call - Combine them..
The APEX fits are being designed to be a training tool for a role, imo But this training tool is denied to new mercs unless they spend $30 Or win over 100 battles in FW while consevring 10mil ISK.... this is not for New mercs.
So I ask that you rethink the Starter options and design them to be capable of filling roles in battle.
- Add a logi (Mlt med frame w/2EQ) Reps and a Link/Hive..... all Mlt
- Sniper.. give it Ewar mods and a damn nanohive
- Anti-Armour.. add Mlt AV nades and possibly a hive
- Medic/Frontline, just remove Frontline, and give medic the racial weapons.
This keeps 4 Starter fits, and defines a purpose with some of them..
OR
Rework the starter fits completely to offer an actual Mlt platform for mercs to experiment with roles. For AUR it was done fast enough (APEX) so please consider adding more to the NPE as these are the grunts who if they stick with the game.. will buy Aurum for the other offers in-game..
It's either do this, and allow new mercs experimental gear.... Or remove ScrubLord fittings from Public matches completely (PROTO) It is really boring to watch one scrub destoy an entire enemy team just because they can bankroll it If your going to QQ about earning your gear/ISK then go use those Proto fits in PC or FW... Rather than farming pubs and doing all you can to further flush this game down the toilet..

We could do nothing about it (as usual) and HTFU QQ Git Gud... I care not, NPE won't help me at all.. but it will help the game so I want it improved. It's about time the players wanted the game to improve not just their own preferances...

Haters gonna Hate... I am quite forgiving towards CCP.. this is their project, they will decide how to run it NPE is something they NEED to focus on, as it could bring many players into the fold
Dust is my favorite shooter and will remain so until CCP hammer the last nail in the coffin.. I learned how to get into the game on my own and with other newbs at the time, it's a wild ride CCP need to accept that most 'casual' gamers want to be spoon fed...
So working on the NPE is the best way to do this.. I'm not saying wrap them in a bundle and play care-bear...
CCP need to define the purpose of all mercs new/old via improvements to the NPE..

WTF are you talking about.. the new academy last like 4 hours with heavy/HMG fits and like 4 aurum fits 500 EHP everything from scrambler rifle to rail rifles.. if that isn't enough for NPE they can make another character to play another 4 hours in academy until they want an actual challenge. there's like 8 fits now not 4.

I think the NPE would be okay if the matchmaker stopped matching vets and new players together. I don't think there's any game on the market available today that has a worse matchmaking strategy than Dust 514. |

this doesn't happen in my experience. i play a lot of alts and the ones out of academy are getting placed with total noobs on both teams.. obviously from the way they try to shoot the MCC with turrets.. not saying match making is perfect because my higher SP chars the match making sux for. but the NPE has come a long way and too much energy spent on it will effect nothing. ppl either like dust or they don't the ones that do don't need to have their hand held in the first place. balancing the game to try and target a phantom audience is not the way to go.

It is hard to say for whom these new dropsuits are addressed.
APEX suits should work like old Orgine suits, and accelerate SP gain per match until reaching some point - it is the only scenario that make sens using them.

@Tebow Please do not account the 4/8 AUR suits dished to newbs for NPE... They are a good start, yes .. but more variation is needed to show newbs what styles they could choose.
Giving too many fee suits is a bad idea // unless earned
But what starter fits or the new AUR test fits need is a proper definition of roles in DUST combat If new mercs where actually given a sample of what to use / expect, it could help the NPE So upgraded Mlt fits - capped at 4/5 free 'starter fits' Then the new AUR test suits for assault // heavy expaned on, this way they are test items not permanent fits. Adding Scout // Logistics // Commando test fits would be great...
(APEX fits have shown CCP can 'lock' fittings // this feature could be used in balancing starter or AUR test fits)

It's about time the players wanted the game to improve not just their own preferances... looks good but why not also increase the SP gain and sp cap for the battle acadamy... like 100% sp gain but stops and you get kicked out of the battle acadamy at 1m sp.. with 1mill you can have the standard level fit so you wont have to be MLT in pub contracts.. as for the new improved starter fits we need to take into account things like the skills the suit starts with.. mainly the fitting skills like i think its coe upgrades 1 and electronic/power 1 aswell so with in those constraints it may be difficult to make some starter fits.. i guess its off to protofits and see what kind of fits are racial and compairable.

Also they are not that bad, as I myself you them, well the Sniper fit, but I still use them!

my main issue with too much freely given SP boosts would be.. A merc who grinds 2/4 months and earns 15mil.. continues gaming for 6 monthe earnign a further 7-8mil thats how progression would go and it would feel like hitting a wall...
A better solution
- More free gear drops // bosster drops from newb/merc achievements.. If these have a high frequency when a merc is below 10 mil.. I would be fine with that |

i just finished makeing 6 conceptual "starter fits" 2 heavy (comm/sent) 2 medium (ass/logi) and 2 light (scout/sniper).
these are just concepts but i tried to limit the fits somewhat in terms of ehp while maintaining some functionality, had to use some basic items instead of MLT
Heavy
-Sentinel simple enough, HMG some regen sub par sidearm to compensate for strong main.. about 1000ehp
-commando primary tactical AV infantry with CR, swarms and hive. about 750 ehp
Medium
- Assault typical assault, CR, SMG, flux, Hive about 500 ehp
-Logistics typical logi.. CR, flux, repair tool, injector, uplink.. about 450 ehp
Light
-Scout sidearms only, SMG, nova knives, flux, stable uplink, active scanner, profile damp x1.. about 300 ehp
-Sniper sniper, smg, locus grenade, hive one wasted equip slot, about 300 ehp.
i felt it nessesary to have 2 of each suit type to give the newbros a better feel and understanding of the game outside battle academy. the AV role fell to commando because i felt AV fitting with just sidearm as protection was just asking for death as AV not only have to try take out vehicles but also protect themselves against infantry.
the assault and logi suits are self explanatory, as are the sentinel, scout, and sniper suits..
i also tried to make the suits fall into line with EHP as you start with the behemoth sentinel at 1k+ then commando at 750, followed by assault at 500 and logi at 450 then the scout suits with 300ish ehp each giving the newbro a feel for what to expect and may help to train them into adjusting their playstyles to fit the suits

I dont know if anyone has watched how some of the new players play in the academy, but they generally seem to be having fun, struggling to find out where to go, but eventually they get a sense of direction and battles become tense between them.
A single spawn uplink nearer the objective can massively turn the tide of the battle!
Now if the NPE / Tutorial was a bit better, and we gave them longer to mature before throwing them in at the deep end with proto squads..... More people might stick around long enough to get into the game more before rage quitting.

We're working on it.
The problem with solving the current NPE's failings is that the NPE itself isn't just one thing. It's an amalgam of several aspects of the game and while fixing one such aspect will help, its just one step in a longer process.
The first problem had the balancing in the game and after a series of hotfixes and the first patch in six months, we find ourselves in a much better situation. Oh, there's still a couple of problems in regard to balancing, there always will be. But even the most cynical of the player base must surely admit that compared to any point since launch in May 2013, the game plays better than it has.
Delta was our first salvo in getting the initial skills more obvious, racial starter fits to demonstrate the differences in the races offensisive and defensive philosophies, leading up to the creation of the Apex suits. The allowing of LP to purchase those suits was also part of the process and meant as such. LP allows players to get gear that they're not skilled enough for year without having to pay for it. The LP versions of weapons, suits and modules are all based on the Aur variants, simply renamed and reskinned. We're not done in this regard either, the CPM and CCP are constantly discussing further changes.
There are also other aspects that can help tremendously. The current UI in the game isn't the most helpful. It's lacking several systems that other games would take for granted. Corps are essentially clans or guilds, a cornerstone of MMO game design for nearly the last two decades. So why make the creation and running of an important part of the games social structure such a pain in the @rse?
Fun fact that's open knowledge. Did you know that literally up to two months before the launch of the Closed Beta, there was no corp UI or structure in the game? It was even considered that Dust didn't need corporations? Thank goodness the previous management regime ain't around any more.
The point is that we're working on several things that will help, nearly all of which have been brought up on these forums. Some will make it in, others won't. But there is literally no suggestion that isn't read by CCP and Rattati in particular. He lives here to be honest.

Adding a tutorial would not even be needed (as much) as adding the suits // fittings // equipment to get involved in fights. As I pointed out, the Mlt Gear menu is full with current gear and 'could' combined with the build of APEX suits ... - So upgrade the purposes of starter fits (and lock fittings to prevent being too useful) - Apothecarys suits are a good example of the options. If you give mercs the tools to learn how to play, they will... right now there is not enough examples/guidance
One way to brighten it up, would be as mentioned with Booster as 'salvage' or 'rewards' for new mercs.. Some of the AUR fits could be salvaged or rewarded also.. just giving more examples of roles to newer players |

I personally think that 500k is too low a starting point for new mercs, It could be as high as a M. That being said, being good at dust and having tons of sp don't always go hand in hand. Skills > SP.
Knowing the maps, the strategies, the synergies (of suits and weapons), and other basic information like this can be very beneficial to newer players.
What about a series of optional training videos. Showing the basic strategic points in certain maps (ie, flying a ds to the tower above the pipes being a good places to uplink and maintain high ground), how to get the most out of your rep tools and scanners, why you should have a few suits made for when you are holding a supply depot (nanowhoring), how to read opponents suits quickly to determine if you should stand and fight or run and live to fight another day, etc etc etc.

Ok. Fist hand Experience. Just created a new Character to try NPE. Finished Battle Academy. Caldari, Civre. - How to join battle. Check - How to fit a new fit. Check - How to skill a skill. Check - Couple of Matches then Boom, welcome to the big boys Public matches.
Things I saw - Lots of LAVS - Lots of the 2 starter fits that are not the basic 5. (Heavy and Medium with "AngelStar" RR for Caldari) - Fun fights - Militia of all weapons
Things lacking - I never saw an Uplink or Nanohive dropped. - 99% of dropsuits were mediums. No lights and a couple of Heavys (2 special starter fit, look point 2 above) - Never saw a HAV nor a Dropship
My opinion: Why not make another tutorial step to deploy Uplink and Nanohive? Why not for Scanning and Cloacking? Why not for Needles deploying a tank and killing a tank?
This things should be done since the start so that this items and features are not the best-kept secret. Someone said this on another post before; "You have to spoon-feed the customers". Why not doing that from the start? Also the battle academy should be make longer.
My 2 cents guys.
P.S. Would love a mode where only Militia Items are allowed. Damn that would be fun!
