Could we talk about changing those skills? I have the feeling they are either too expensive or they don't give enough additional ammo. In some cases they don't even give you one additional magazine but still cost almost 1mil SP for level 5.
So, can we either make them cheaper or make them give us more ammo?

Right now why would I want to spend 1mil SP to get 375 more shots for a HMG? (that is 88% of a magazine)
At level 5 they should either give you 2 full magazines or the skill should get its multiplier reduced. Currently 375 HMG shots cost you as much SP as proto uplinks.

Level 5 of any support skill is often dubious in its usefulness. For example is 3% extra reload worth the SP investment at level 5 worth the investment? Many will say no, but that doesn't mean the skill is necessarily too SP expensive. Levels 1-3 are meant to be easy to get, level 4 is if you're really wanting to invest in that skill. Level 5 is 50% of the total SP investment for the entire skill, but only 20% of the benefit, and is meant to be for late optimization or not even at all because of the high cost.
Besides you can't really go off of the whole "x magazines" concept since technically the Plasma Cannon gets 5 additional full magazines with maxed out skills

But right now we are talking about the ammoe skill only.
So, make it worth it! Either way. I don't see why it shouldn't be worth its SP.
also, PLC was %-based before, then they realised it was useless and changed it. I don't see why they shouldn't do it for the rest of the weapons.

And I'm saying that's the nature of the 5 level skill system. Your complaint applies universally, but that's the point of the system. Level 5 is not supposed to hold the same inherit value for the SP as the rest of the levels because it's an 'end-game' skill level. So what you're looking at is Level 4 which earns you 20% bonus carry ammo for less than a week's worth of active SP. That seems worthwhile to me.

Level 4 HMG = 300 shots =~450k SP ... not worth it
Level CR = 81 shots ... not worth it
I'm sorry but I don't see it. And I don't see why anyone would try to defend a skill being that expensive while also being useless.
Skilling something to 5 should be worth it, always, for everything.

The Sniper Rifle gets 2 rounds for a charge at level 5 (maybe 3, don't remember) .. Agree with you on this. They need to up the amount of ammo being at level 5 gains you. With a Charged Sniper rifle, I should get at least 2 magazines out of it (6 rounds total, still not a hell of a lot but better than what I am getting now)

I remember when the ammo skills took a nerf for all "heavy ordnance" weapons back in 1.4 when they switched from % to single rounds. Seriously messed with my MD and SL back then, but back to the topic, I agree on the need for a rework on these skills. The only thing that the Ammo Cap skills do now is increase hive efficiency in the replenishment of our ammo. At lvl5, ammo should, in my opinion be brought to a max of 1.5x, a 50% increase in total ammo carried.
On a side note, can the Plasma and Scrambler Rifles be brought to a total of 5 + 1 mags, so it can be like the rest of the racial rifles? Pretty please!!!
Every battle is a battle of attrition for me. 100hp in 5 seconds helps though

Move it to core upgrades, let it apply to all weapons. If it's not too much, subdivide a second tier for heavy / light / sidearm magazine size increase. |

The ammo skills actually have a hidden bonus no one here is mentioning.
Nanohives restore a percentage of your TOTAL ammo capacity, not just a set amount.
For example a 20% hive gives you 60 AR rounds per cycle...but for every level of ammo capacity you get 5 more rounds per cycle.
Sure it's not a huge bonus, but when you pop a nanohive after only 2 cycles, level 5 ammo capacity gives you the difference between 2 and 2.5 clips, and you never know when you'll need that extra bit of ammo.
I only ever get ammo cap 4 for weapons that go through ammo fast, some weapons I don't ever spend any sp on this skill. Level 3 really isn't that expensive thoough, and if I use the weapon to any extent I will always skill at least level 2 (10% ammo increase for like 70k sp)

Increasing the amount of ammo you carry increases the value of hives as shayz pointed out.
Doesn't devalue it at all.
