The most fun FW games I've ever had were with a sync, as we were constantly fighting other FW syncs. And unlike PC matches, you can actually relax as you're not loosing 10-50m ISK if you lose.
Not only that, but the point of FW is work with your Militia to befit the goals and perform tasks delegated to you by your faction (hence the term "Factional Warfare"). If you refuse to work with your Militia, then you should pay the price for it (which you are, as you won't have any assistance against enemy syncs).
If you want to run solo you need to either get 16x better or go back to PUBs. FW is low-sec, and there's no room in any of the Militias for carebears and crybabies.

With all these q-syncs there's rarely "little opposition". In the past week I've been fighting with MM there have only been about 5 matches (out of 50) where there hasn't been any squads/teams on the other side.
Well, on the Matari vs. Amarr side at least.

Not having a mic is not an excuse. Just ask anyone who's ever squadded up with me and they'll tell you how I usually don't speak at all unless I absolutely have to. Heck, at one point my mic was broken and I was even playing PCs regularly.
As long as you follow directions and are a competent player, people won't care if you have a mic.
