Im tired of the word clip. Its magazine all these weapons use magazines or drums .I can't stand it it makes me want to go to ccp and give them a lesson in weapons.

- "Hey Joe, you mind giving me a hand? My clip's running dry".
- "Hey Joe, you mind giving me a hand? My magazine's running dry".
When you're in a firefight, which would you rather say; The one which is accurate or the one which relays the same message but faster?
Not sure about you, but I'll chose the former any day.

magazine is usually shortened to mag. And it's no excuse to remain ignorant on the matter if we really are saying the wrong word.

I made a thread about this topic a few months ago listing what weapons have what.
The Mass Driver is the only weapon in the game with an actual clip.
Everything else has a basic magazine except for the Amarr weapons which use fuel cell battery thingies, the PLC which I'm still not sure what you'd call it's ammo system, the HMG which has a bucket of lead strapped to it(drum mag) and Nova Knives which don't have ammo.

I just got out of the army we say mag not magazine. So whats faster to say mag or clip? And btw in a firefight if you run out of rounds your fcking your platoon

Actually a clip is what the rounds come in. You put tje rounds into a magazine. Go to a gun show or a store and ask them you wanna buy a clip 2 things will happen A laugh at you or B give you a box of rounds.

Not that I care but I'm bored.
You may be right in the use of the word but, chill OP, if you say a word enough times with an intended meaning , it eventually becomes associated with the meaning and acceptable.
As an example the word ain't is now a word found in the dictionary and officially a word.
I've been around guns for a good while and if you ask me for a clip I'll know what your referring to.
EDIT: If you go to a gun store and ask for a clip , they'll ask you for what weapon and tell you the price of the clip /mag. |

Despite being a card carrying member of the Grammar Gestapo, it doesn't really matter. Language is a meme (in the actual sense of the word), and is subject to change and evolve as time goes on. Words that had different meanings in the past have different meanings now, new words are invented, rules are smudged, etc.
The ultimate goal of language is to convey information from one person to another, so you understand what I mean when I say "throw me a clip," then the details in its delivery don't really matter.

The ScP actually does use clips, most of the other weapons though are magazines. I feel your pain though, OP. Little things like this always did bug me, but it was probably simpler to code for CCP instead of differentiating between each weapon's loading system.

Go to a video game and 99.9% of the people there don't give a ****. My point is that it doesn't matter. Most gamers don't care. So yeah, I just say 'clip' to irritate the 0.1% of the player based that starts twitching when they hear it.

Yeah, I feel you, my brother is a Marine and he schooled me in the same way. Clips are what those M1s used. Where they're disposable, I think. Magazines are reloadable containers in which you put cartridges in. However, we don't know if the containers for our ammo are disposable/one time use or not. I mean, we use nanites, so what's to say they aren't clips?

Good point yet who says nanites can't rebuild the magazines rounds completely.

I would be fine with saying "mag" rather than "clip" but "magazine" is too long and cumbersome. Also you would have to get CCP to change it in the descriptions.
Hand/Eye coordination cannot be taught. For everything else there is the Learning Coalition.

Yeah, if someone paused in the middle and said "YOU MEAN A MAGAZINE RIGHT"
I would immediately say "YES, OF COURSE. I NEED ANOTHER MAG"
He would toss me a mag, I would put it in my gun and promptly shoot him.
Don't argue semantics on a battlefield.
But yes, Magazine is technically correct.

Hold over from the most games FPS being set in World War 2 about 15 years ago (well, before BF2 but more specifically Modern Warfare). Most weapons did use clips for your single shot rifles. So it is clip. The players associate clip with "the thing that puts the bullets in the gun" so when they go to a automatic weapon, that is obviously a clip to. Fast forward to today, "the thing that puts the bullets in the gun" is a magazine but players still call it a clip.
But, then again, almost ever branch of entertainment has gotten it wrong. Movies, especially those that are not more military focused, will say clip. I have never heard a rapper proclaim "that the mag ran dry" instead of clip. So where does it come from originally? Who knows but the ubiquity makes it possible that it may some day be accepted as correct. IE, ain't in the dictionary.

Everyone uses difderent words for the same goddamn thing if we under stand what they meant then why sould i care what they said. I could say "hey you want some coke" and some peole would thunk im offering drugs but most think im offering a tasty beverage so as long as most understood it the few that didnt will get it explained to them later.
