I'm sure this issue had been brought up before. No no, it's definitely been brought up before, but seeing as how nothing about it has changed I feel like I should bring this issue to light once more.
The Assault HMG needs a tighter reticle. Plain and simple.
It does more damage than a normal HMG at a distance, the problem is actually applying the damage.
With the normal and burst variants, their reticle sizes work due to their engagement ranges being right in your face. It's easy to apply maximum damage with these two variants.
However, the Assault HMG has the exact same reticle size, so when firing at enemies at a distance, lots of bullets are going to miss, gimping it's damage output.
To apply maximum damage, you need to get closer, but in that case you're better off with one of the other variants.
The Assault HMG needs a tighter reticle to really utilize it's range advantage.

Reticle can stay the same size.
It needs a 25% faster accuracy gain (rate at which reticle gets smaller)
And a 10-15% higher max accuracy.

What's wrong with that statement?
At 41m(max optimum for STD Assault HMG)
The Assault does it's max 13.5 damage.
The normal does about 58% of it's max damage for about 10.5 damage.
Is there something wrong here I'm not aware of?

I want to use the Assault HMG, but as OP said in fewer words: it's just impractical for its intended use.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm addressing, so I don't really know what Breakin Stuff is talking about in regards to his eye twitching. Maybe he should see a doctor.

Assault HMG has been an elephant in the room since it's inception. It was the way the OP phraseed the statement that set my teeth on edge.
I will give him credit for recognizing the right way to solve it.
Dispersion is the answer. Rattati has promised to make it viable again. I have no idea how he's going to do it but I am guessing it will be dispersion.
Especially since every post about it has been in lockstep on the issue: everyone independently comes to the conclusion that dispersion is the best answer.

HMG assault is forced to use two damage modifiers forever. Also, should reduce dispersion. Otherwise it is useless

Nothing wrong with the freedom or any any assault variants :) I use the assault more than others, I think if they decrease the range of the basic variant of hmg it'll stand out more, the minuthe they buff it. People will state it's op and ccp will nerf it to where it iss worse then at the start so yeah. Let them tone down the boundless, heat build up and range nerf :)

No more range nerfs. Ranges in DUST are too anemic across the board. HMG needs to be either evicted from cqc entirely or the heat on all variants should be set the same as the STD variant.
The assault needs less dispersion and more than +10m optimal.

Been saying this quite a bit today. Increase accuracy / dispersion and fix that reticle. Even if you just shrink the outer reticle a bit, that would help tremendously thinking of 'peep sights').
And yeah, beyond about 30 meters the Assault HMG retains more DMG than the basic version. |
