I was going to say solo players vs squad players, but 90% of the playerbase is scout-orientated joking No doubt many of you like to play in squads...your team members can alert you when there is a cloaker nearby, or watch you when you are hacking a point. Apart from Apothecary Zaki who obviously has no idea how to deal with scouts if he hates them so much, do you think solo scouts require more skill than squad scouts?
I think it does

Playing solo teaches players fundamental skills and tactics that would otherwise not be known. It is no surprise that many players of high ranking corps are easy to dispose of in one v. one situations. It's mostly because many of them never learned how to play well solo or many of them simply forgot how to fight without having people behind them.

It depends on the people you are playing with. I joined random squads many times. If you are in a blueberry squad there is not much safety or fun you can expect. It happened several times that I was hacking a objective and I thought my squad mate would watch me. No way, he ran off and got killed himself and a few seconds after kis death I followed him. The worst thing is when you get killed by your enemy and he is nearly dead and you see a squad member is coming closer. You hope that he would kill the enemy. And BOOM.......your squad member is dead too.
Nice work blueberry

I have always played solo, nothing against squads, just my own preference. I selected scout as my first suit that I put SP into because I felt it was the best fit for a solo player.
As a solo result, my k/dr has never been very good. A typical match when I was new was 2 kills, 10 assists, 7 deaths. k/dr .29.
I could wing them, just not kill them.
My k/dr is much better now after some months of practice and better equipment (this months k/dr maybe 1.5 or so). Still not very good but when you solo you have to accept that you aren't going to be as effective. Lifetime k/dr will never be great. But that's ok. I have fun and that's all I really care about.
I still run crap fits in ambush to earn ISK so that's usually an ass kicking traded for a paycheck.
I can be very good 1v1 but can struggle when it's 2 on 1 , 3 on 1, etc as would be expected.
Playing solo forces you to be at your best, and I am just amazed that I stuck it out through all the ass kickings I endured. Still do.

Answering just on title. Solo, can do your own thing, no talking in your ear, not so much pressure.
Squad scout, still can do your own thing, coordination, can run in packs, more funny moments in between the each of you.
Cons. Can get EXTREMLY competitive, in pub Dom no less my own experience, blaming squad mates for the loss, butthurt can occur easily and tension between players plus it can bring out the good in players when others became rage, or bring out what a douchebag they are.

Solo scout you only have to watch your back, you can stay on the edges of the battle, and can run away if you take some damage, and you can often get away without range amplifiers or precision enhancers. Gal Scout is best at this role, but any scout can run it.
As squad scout, you have to watch six backs, you're generally right in the middle of the battle, with few places to hide, and you have less HP because you need range amps and sometimes precision enhancers. Am Scout with it's precision bonus is best for this role, with Cal Scout and its extra range 2nd.
I play both roles quite frequently & squad scout is MUCH harder. It's not even comparable, to me. |

I play solo 98% of the time. Your right I cant stand it when I am trying to rid the board of scouts and they keep scanning and running in packs. Very hard to deal with. I call it scrub tactics for they cant use anything else as a squad. I challenge them to use nothing but assault, commando, logi, and even heavy and they would get stomped into the ground and they know it. Cheap tactics. I run scout lately and yes it is a cheap tactic but when you run solo against squads you have to use everything you have.

I solo often. I believe it makes players better and most importantly smarter.
But when I solo I'm often with 15 noobs and I know we will lose so I avoid precarious situations since I'm alone and generally don't give a fuk about the other 15 players on my team.
I take more risks when I'm with friends and always go for the win. I think solo and squad play are both important but with the current state of the game I prefer playing solo. It is the only challenge I can get outside of PC.
A full squad and sometimes even half a squad turns most pubs into boring redline matches pretty quick these days.

Each style requires a different set of skills.
One is not better than the other just like being good at one does not make you good at the other. |
