I made some money when I first started cause I just used the equipment you get at the beginning but I was getting owned and it got old real fast. I thought I would try playing the faction war mode. I have not joined a corporation so I just play alone so far. In faction war I am 4 wins and 33 losses so far. I looked it up on that screen. I ran the advanced scrambler rifle most of time but had no impact on my team. After all these hours of playing I have no money, and very little motivation to continue. How do you keep at it when you never win and feel you are not leveling your character up? My friend was over while I was playing he asked what it was I said don't bother you can't get off square one. I'm back to my beginning suits and getting creamed can't even buy good scrambler. How do you guys do it? Feel I am close to quitting.

As for playing solo this is not a solo player game. Once you get better you can play solo and be successful but as a noob you're much better off in a squad and stick together. Also not sure if you're aware but the Militia Amarr Medium Frame offers a low slot, it's cheap and it's much better than running starter fits.

There is a very steep learning curve up to about 5 million SP, where you can have an effective Prototype suit (A suit of the highest quality) with a Prototype weapon and good core skills. Here's what you can do to help yourself make it though that grind: Stay active on the "Rookie Training Grounds" section of the forums. Not only does that section have many guides to different roles and weapons, the people who frequent that section of the forums are generally more optimistic and helpful to new players than those in GD (or the War Room) Ask Questions about anything you are confused about. SP that is poorly spent will be a particularly large pill to swallow in the early part of your DUST career. If there is any skill that you don't understand, or are unsure of how helpful the bonus is - ask. If you are unsure about what makes a skill useful - ask. And if you want to stay on the right side of the "Meta" - ask. For reference, you can go to a player made website - protofits.com - where you can experiment with different skills and fittings to learn what your decisions will do before you make them Join a squad whenever possible. There is truly power in numbers, and you will also have the nice bonus of having an impact in your squad, instead of comparing yourself to the team at large. Stay out of FW until you have more skillpoints. FW is more of a Free for all for mercs, and will usually result in a stomp if you are in Caldari or Amarr Faction Warfare. On top of that, you will only gain LP. You should stay in public matches to build up ISK Finally, if you are willing to spend $20, buy a Merc pack on the PSN store. It has a good value for the money you pay, largely held in the BPO (Unlimited copies of a dropsuit) that comes with the pack DUST is a hard game. Feel I am close to quitting. id suggest coupling the scrambler with SMG, breach if possable. also get your "core" skills up.. shield hp armor hp armor plates reps shield extenders.. and try stick with the pack but try be smart too.. try adapt to what situations bring. The rail rifle is strong, but they get held down because they are the only faction with sniper rifles so there teams generally have to many snipers (one is to many in my book). So a good bet for better battles is fighting for gallente or the slaves, but since you are amar I would just limit your search to amarr and gallente until it is a little more balanced. Also join immortal guides for sure they send out instructional letters almost everyday no tax and a ton of cool people to play with. Check out the film Flame and Citron it is amazing! Wizard Talk

Speed and E-war (for scouts) . HP and weapons for Heavies. The best Damage mod is a HEADSHOT....

Feel I am close to quitting. 1: If you don't have gun game expect to get wrecked 2: Use common sense e.g The enemy is coming to hack this to, so I should wait for them to start hacking it then knife/shoot them in the back so they don't shoot/knife me in the back. 3: Look up on youtube Cyrius Li-Moody. He plays as a scout, you might enjoy that role. It is for newer players and there are always (well, almost always) solid players on there willing to squad up with you and help you out. DUST University has a really good reputation with new players. You gain a lot of power really quickly in this game (levels 1-3 are cheap, and 4-5 much more expensive), so focus on getting your core skills (armor and shield skills) to level 3 early on. Put a couple of points into electronics and engineering. The extra PG/CPU will allow you to squeeze more HP onto your suits. Stick to pubs and wear cheap suits to bank up ISK. You might want to unlock drop uplinks. They are a great way to get extra warpoints, which will earn you more money and SP each match if you put them in good locations. Scrambler rifles are great guns, but they're laser weapons so they get a huge +20% bonus damage to enemy shields, and an equally huge -20% penalty against armor. This means you have to be smart about your engagements. Caldari and Minmatar are shield suits, so those should be your primary targets. Learn the ranges of the weapons. The scrambler rifle has the 2nd longest range of the racial rifles behind the rail rifles. Use range to your advantage. Just because you see a red enemy, you shouldn't always engage. Maneuver into a position where your range gives you an advantage. If there are multiple enemies close together, don't engage until they're fighting someone else, and flank them. Teamwork is critical. If all else fails, and you're hopelessly frustrated, take a break for a month or two. You'll bank up some decent SP (even when not playing) and might have more fun when you return. This game really is amazing if you can get past the initial trial-by-fire aspect of the new player experience. Best PvE idea ever!

I've got a few tips for ya, some of them aren't very... well, they sound ****** but they will help you get past the new player hump. I'll try not to overwhelm you with 'em but this will be pretty wody. If you manage to read everything I have to say and decide to stay here is a link you to a pretty neat guide series. Bottom of second post has specific guides, should help you get ready for any role you want to learn https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=106187&find=unread Biggest bit of advice: Wait for an SP event to really get into Dust. You're going to burn out if you play more than a session or two a day, just play it slow and give your character a chance to get free SP over time until an event offers you a chance to compete with the rest of us. I know I would've said "Screw this, I'm out" if there hadn't been a Million Clone event shortly after I started and there is no way in hell I'm telling someone to tough it out without an event. Fortunately, there are a decent number of these events so you shouldn't have to wait more than a month or two and by then you should receive enough passive skill points to get an okay dropsuit. Just be sure to at least log in on days when you're not playing to get that log on bonus; you don't have to actually play a match to get the reward. Second thing, avoid Faction Warfare for now. Faction Warfare is a lot more competitive as it unlocks exclusive gear and lets people access stuff early, meaning there are a lot of people who outright cheat to win that good gear. There are decent amount of people doing that in public contracts but most people there won't actively abuse broken stuff. I won't bug you about joining a corporation but I will bug you about joining a squad and chat channel. Learning Coalition is a good chat to start with, fair number of experienced players willing to answer questions. It it kind of empty during the daytime but most nights you can find help relatively fast, just give people a couple minutes to finish their current game. Type in LFS (stands for Looking For Squad) if you want people to send you a squad invite. Trust me, even if you both lack mics just having someone else you to walk around with makes all the difference in the world... Just be sure to go look for them every time one of you dies. Thing 3- You are actually good on weapon skills, believe it or not you have everything you need. See, the Scrambler Rifle butchers people's shields but loses a lot of damage against armor. The Bolt Pistol, Magsec, and Submachinegun are all sidearms with a lot of damage against armor; figure out which one works for you and switch to it after your Scrambler Rifle destroys their shields. I imagine that you know the role of each suit well enough by now so I'll skip to the practical advice on how determine which suit is right for you. To see if Logistics are right for you, run a light militia suit and use it to try out all of the militia equipment. If you find that equipment is good fun and either wish to make it stronger or just straight up want to carry more of it then the Logistic suit is for you. If being that easy to kill is too painful or you just don't see the point in equipment I suggest avoiding light suits/scouts as they require a hefty investment before you get access to the good stuff and you can't afford to wait to be combat viable. If you have any Loyalty Points left over from Faction Warfare I strongly advise using them to buy that faction's Commando suit. Once you get a feel for what it is like to be a Commando it should be pretty easy to figure out what you want to do. If Commando is just right, well, that's just dandy and I'm glad you got to test it out before you bought it. If you want to be able to run behind cover better or just feel too sluggish then Assault suits are probably going to be your thing. If you don't mind the slow speed and want still more health then I recommend setting your sights on Sentinel. Any suit of any race is completely viable, you will just have to tinker around a bit to figure out what combo works best for you. We should totally get a Quafe soda mascot hologram.

Imperfect FPS mechanics combined with multiple flawed MMORPGesque battle systems, and you get a player hierarchy that limits anyone that haven't played extremely long to being unable to rely on skill or major tactical planning. So yeah the only way to actually make progress in this game is to buy boosters or don't play for a year and let that passive SP pile up. Set the trap and run away. You can be a scrub tanker and hide in the red line or sit in the middle of an objective and kill the troops and soon as you take damage you hit the hardeners, then rinse and repeat. Actually, stick with militia suits for now. You already have scrambler rifle skilled, which can be either awesome or terribad depending on the situation. I wouldn't chase too much on other weapons, except maybe the submachine gun as a sidearm - scrambler melts shields, SMG hits armor. You skill points should go into armor, shield, electronics and engineering. Get those all to at least level 3 before you get the respective modules. Once you get armor & shield to 5, armor plate/repair to 3, shield ext/reg/recharge to 3, then go back and experiment more with weapons. Each tier of suit will give a small bonus, but very difficult to capitalize on if you're lacking in your core skills. Protofits.com is awesome for risk free experimenting. If you're new, I recommend starting with basic Amarr and Gallente simply because they can armor stack. Find a Corp. Join squads. If you have a mic headset, use it. If not, activate voice anyways for the squad you're in. Most squads will (should) call out intel. Eventually you'll find a group that you work well with. Lots of people are a$$hats, don't let them get to you. It's going to take time. Lots of time. Stick with it. Good luck!

A few weeks ago I might have given you a pep talk, right now, with 32 million SP, I am in the same boat. I used to feel a little excitement before every battle, now it is more like dread, usually followed by a dull resignation. However, I continue to have hope, things have turned around for me in this game several times so I'm just waiting for the worm to turn. I suggest you play skirmish and set your own little objectives for each game, not just winning. Start running from more fights and try and find players you can talk and joke with. Because, that's why.

If it is designed around teamwork then why does matchmaking pit random solo players against pre-made squads? Teamwork has nothing to do with whether someone is pre-squaded or not. The type and level of teamwork can and should be better defined and separated. I'm better than laser focused; I'm hybrid focused.

Go to the dropsuit skills section and read the descriptions for each suit. Alot of suits come with bonuses that add up each level. There are Amarr suits that reduce your heat build up every level. In the dropsuits upgrade sections, there are skills that dont unlock new items, but add more base shield, armor, PG, CPU, ect. They can be expensive skill SP wise, but if you get up to a 25% bonus applied to all the base suits. I got this bonus, so when I run a militia fit, it has more health than one you would field. Trust me, you really need to sit down and spend some time looking at the suits and matching up with what you want to do in this game. If you need some time, take a break for a little bit...the SP will accumulate by itself, and when you come back, youll have a nice pile to invest with. Ill try to send you some ISK when I log on later this week. But use it wisely cause that doesnt happen very often. One more thing: Its not true that you cant play solo. You can, but its alot harder because you have to have a in depth understanding of enemy movements and goals. Youll have to know when to pick a fight or when to let them pass you. Its alot harder than squads. Buts its viable, I do it everyday. You wont have much offensive power, but the ability to pop up almost anywhere and fade away just as quick can make you dangerous. But it takes time and experience to develop tactics. TL;DR: Hang in there! Its a rough game to start, but it gets better

I have been playing for about 6 and 1/2 months now and I have gone from constantly getting slaughtered horribly to being able to hold my own pretty well and I am an all-out solo player; I have never run with a squad and I have no desire to ever do that. I am going to break down what I did to get decent at this game. 1. Since you are just now starting off pick one type of weapon and one type of dropsuit to play with and stick with it. Do not invest Skill Points in anymore than 1 weapon or dropsuit for right now; you will need those skill points to level up more important skills. 2. Invest skill points into Armor Upgrades. Try to get your armor and shield amount when combined to be at least 500. When you engage in combat with someone you are going to want to stay alive long enough to get a feel of how it is to actually battle someone in this game. Whether or not you actually prevail in the battle engagements will not necessarily matter at first. Your ultimate goal needs to be for you to stay alive long enough for you to at least have the opportunity to shoot or try to shoot the enemy. If your armor and shield are too low you will die immediately. 3. Do not run around by yourself. You do not need to be a part of a squad, all you need to do is make sure you have teammates around you. ALWAYS STICK WITH THE PEOPLE ON YOUR TEAM. 4. Do not beat yourself up if you do not get any kills in a match or if you only get 1 or 2. When I first started I would stay close to my teammates and I would help them take down whoever they are fighting. At first I constantly played matches in which my end game stats would be something like 2 kills, 20+ assists, and 10+ deaths. It sucks at first but as your character develops the game becomes easier to handle. 5. Invest in your Core Skills. The Core Skills will take you a long way. I personally think Precision Enhancement, Profile Dampening, and Range Amplification are very important skills to level up. In the game if you ever walk around a corner and immediately get blasted away by someone and you are left wondering how that person had any idea that you were coming, it is because of those skills. 6. Do not stand in one place and do not look in the same direction for more than 5 to 7 seconds at a time. Always be aware of what is going on around you. Constantly look to see if someone is sneaking up on you or your teammates. 7. If you are standing with your teammates and everyone is firing off at a group of enemies and you start to hear a shotgun go off, you need to immediately stop what you are doing and turn around to shoot the guy with the shotgun who just snuck up on your teammates and is now slaughtering them by shooting them in the back all Scareface style. 8. SHOOT THE GUY WITH THE SHOTGUN WHO SNUCK UP ON YOUR TEAM AND IS NOW SLAUGHTERING THEM. 9. This next tip will help you handle cluster-**** situations. Something that I did was anytime I knew of a spawn trap I would purposely spawn there so that I could practice jumping and juking around a bunch of people trying to kill me. My only goal was to kill at least one person after spawning in a spawn trap. If you can handle taking out one person immediately after jumping into a spawn trap all while having half a dozen or more people shooting at you than you will do fine in one-on-one combat. 10. Shoot every enemy you see and hack as many things as you can (enemy vehicles don't matter because you don't get points for doing that). Even if the enemy is too far away for you to reasonably expect to kill them you should shoot at them anyways. The little bit of damage you provide could be that little bit extra needed for one of your teammates who is closer to the enemy to make the kill. I think that might be all I have right now.

General Tso's Alliance 2118	Posted - 2014.11.11 07:45:00 - [34] - Quote To reiterate other important points: . be prepared to die and lose a lot . only run pub matches, not factional (which is an isk sink). . get a mic & join learning coalition, or at least squad with them. . consider joining a corp . invest in core skills first, then weapons, then suits -- you're probably better off leaving weapons and suits alone for a while . stick near other blueberries - a lone newbro is an easy target . play around with militia weapons, see which ones you like and try to find a combo that is complimentary in terms of shields/armor damage . be prepared to die and lose a lot.

You made the classic rookie mistake of spending SP on a weapon instead of a dropsuit and passive skills for the dropsuit. The change from STD -> Proto weaponry is (in most cases) 10% damage. The change from MLT - ADV dropsuit, and MLT -> Pro modules is often double or triple the HP you would have had. Hnolai ki tuul, ti sei oni a tiu. Kirjuun Heiian. I have a few alts.

I felt shame and delight in equal measure.
