I did some maths, assuming all characters have profile dampening 5, and precision enhancement 5, assault suits can be invisible from all but scout passive scans just by equiping a single basic level profile dampening module.
A complex dampener will make your assault invisible to scouts/light suits who only are getting the precision enhancement 5 bonus.
It will also work against, amarr scout skill level 1 Gallente scout level 3 (possibly, it depends on how things are rounded)
And of course against all caldari and minmintar scouts who dont have any precision enhancers added. If they even have a basic precision enhancer equiped you will be visible.
So you ask whats the point? Well the point is that people mainly seem to only talk about ewar on scouts, because doing it on other suits will give up some tank or other ability you might find to be more useful than ewar, but I find the idea of surprising everyone but the ewar scouts to be quite a refreshing idea.
I've been running my assault g-1 with a basic profile dampener to see how things go with it, I was using a basic armor rep in its spot, I still have a complex armor rep and enhanced armor plate on the suit for tank though, and so far I have snuck up on many unsuspecting assault/logi/medium suits and delivered hot plasma and grenade death upon them.
I think it might be worth it to use the complex dampener on my gk.0 fittings based on my initial feeling of success with my g-1 testing.
Edit If you go for two profile dampeners, you will be invisible to even a level 5 gallente scout, and a level 4 amarr scout.
Any scout would need 25% or better precision enhancement ontop of the level 5 precision enhancement skill bonus in order to see you. Two module slots given up for ewar might be too much, but it is an interesting idea to think about. |

I used the logi scan precision of 45, times the skill bonus of .9 as the 'target to beat' for all medium suits, I havent done any math with the advanced dampener yet, but it wouldnt take long.
Advanced gives you 20% dampening, which would make your profile 36db, scouts with level 5 precision skill bonus would have a scanning precision of 36db, so all scouts would be able to see you? Unless they dont have that skill leveled up.
So the difference between a basic dampener and advanced is that you could avoid logi suits that have a basic precision enhancer, but not that have anythign better, and any scouts with 10% or better (precision skill 5 and any combo of module or skill bonus) scanning precision would still be able to see you.
So really a basic is all you need if you want to avoid medium/heavy suits that will not be expected to have precision enhancement modules, and prototype dampener is needed if you want to be able to avoid scouts who are not investing modules into ewar. |

I did the math for those suits in my first post, and explained what skill level of those scouts you can avoid, anything higher and you wouldnt be able to avoid. |

Jack McReady wrote:I would rather accept that anything beside scout is useless in EWAR due to the binary mechanic, use eyes/map awareness and play my suit to its maximum possible strengths instead of cover some weakness and still end up not that good in that area. fitting a damp or two gives up the only advantage assaults currently have over scouts and that is the health pool you can achieve. instead of fitting damps I might aswell play a scout and get the EWAR advantage for free along with better shield recharge, hitbox & strafespeeds.
Giving up one low slot won't cripple your suit, though it is up to everyone to play how they want, I'm only providing a suggestion that players could consider using either one basic dampener or one complex dampener on their assault suit. They provide just enough benefit to be useful. |

Mike Ox Bigger wrote:A medium frame with a complex dampened puts you at 32.5 db a scout scans at 40 db with no skills whatsoever. Your maths are wrong...
What are your maths? You didnt even point out how I'm wrong.
Skill bonus dont add to module bonus, they multiply.
I took 50 profile, 10% from skill, 25% from module. 50*0.9*0.75 = 33.75
Then yes, scouts scan at 40db, but with level 5 precision enhancement skill, which I said I was using in my maths, you get 36db, which I was using as the base target to get under for non-gallente-amarr scouts |
