For the first time I can remember - I was part of an extreme protostomp. Doing the stomping you understand. I'm sure I've been in stomps before but never quite so blatant.
I've got to be honest I thought it would be fantastically funny and that I would feel like I'd earned the right to laugh maniacally due to the work I've put in to g even slightly g.
But actually I felt a bit embarrassed and kind of bad for the victims.

No hatemail as I was way down the list. But it did feel entirely classless. Also if you compare the simple entertainment value of stomping a team of newbs to actually fighting for the victory there is no contest.

An even match is much more fun imo. I've been on both sides as well and it sucks to be stomped, but can't really say I had lots of fun stomping either, was kinda uneventful tbh.

But actually I felt a bit embarrassed and kind of bad for the victims. Didn't stop me blasting them to bits of course but you take my point.... proto stomping just dosnt feel challenging.. that first day nov 4th when people were getting mad isk left and right and everyone was running proto.. the battles were amazing and intense! because people who couldnt normally afford to run proto were running proto to combat other proto players and the level of fun was at an all time high so was the amount of players and matches. but after ccp "fixed" the isk everything went to hell again.. more so for low ranked people (like me) who seem to be getting between 50k and 100k less isk then what i got back in 1.8 which just makes even running advanced quite a hard thing to do against proto stomper squads.. while the high rankers (p2w) get a huge buff to isk gains.
as for proto and squads.. squads are pretty much synonymous with proto stomping as players feel safer running proto so they are more likely to run proto while in a squad.

although I'm at proto level sp wise I literally never run proto suits - only ever advanced. proto is too expensive and I would go bust pretty quickly..
if there was no gain to the advanced dropsuit per level I would respect and not bother with prototype suits - just the weapons.

'People' want different things. So yes, people want even matches, and yes people want lopsided battles. The part that's funny is nobody wants to be on the losing side of the lopsided battle, lol. |

I much prefer a good match to a stomp, which is why I run solo for the most part. If my side is getting stomped, but is still make a good faith effort to win (still pushing objectives, etc.), I don't mind burning through a bunch of proto suit to make the game a bit more competitive for my side. The only thing that ruins my enjoyment is when my side completely stops trying. As long as the blueberries are willing to die valiantly, I'm happy to do it along side them.

Likewise for me - although I did enjoy Shayz video because it was surprisingly dust-like even down to the red hats!
ps - I suppose if Darth Plagueis The Wise was involved in a game of Dust then "he could even stop the ones he cared about... from dying..." so no danger of a stomp there

As someone whos primary role is a logi, its only really fun when its balanced. Otherwise it goes like this:
-If im getting stomped, its hell getting down uplinks in the right place or resupplying my team. My equipments get destroyed, my scanning fits found by 6 man proto squads, vehicles have a single digit minute lifespan. Its tough cause every success I manage to carve out at great ISK loss to myself gets wiped out in not long or becomes a camped out meat grinder.
-If im on the team thats doing the stomp, theres not much I can do. These proto squads have their own logistics chain, and the frontline is at the enemies redline. Most of the enemy stays back to snipe/hide, and the few brave that try to get out get ripped apart by the squads. So I dont have much to do and not much of my equipment is making me WP.
Now when its balanced....If I do something wrong I lose some ground, if I do it right I get my WP flow and the tide switches up a little. Its when I can do my best and it actually counts for something. |

I'd like to see a Militia/STD only queue, and all the new players would be automatically shunted into it. You couldnt run anything better than STD in it regardless of your skill levels. New players need a real long term solution to keep them from having to work on basic skills while being stomped on by prototype squads.
Yes squads full of stompers can still queue and play STD league but at least it would be fair at a fundamental gear level, so the reason the newbies die will never be "that guy had literally 4 times my health even though we are both using assault suits". |

It's more than gear, though. Skilled players, particularly those with a lot of skill points, will always vastly outperform newer, less able and less skill pointed players regardless of gear level.
Create an alt and go into an academy battle. You'll see a few players at the top of the leaderboard (on either side) by a wide margin. These are people who have already been playing Dust for a while, know the maps, know some tactics and are just "trolling noobs for the lulz" and they're doing it in MLT gear with low SP.

-Aramis I'm with you on both accounts, sometimes the berries just need to see someone is still trying and that's enough to rally the troops. I remember one Dom match specifically getting stomped the whole time, managed to hack over the objective with 2 pts of armour left and and the whole team just dug in and thought "umm not this time bitches". Probably one of the only times I've really been proud of a win. That being said if it ends up I'm the only one not trying to snipe I really can't even be bothered to finish the match, I refuse to keep losing ISK if my team won't leave the redline.

I agree with your idea - I know it takes the hard edge off the world of eve a bit and I know that's something CCP are proud of - but I also know there are players who are good gamers in general but who leave Dust because of the crazy difficulty curve.
From the other perspective I specifically got into Dust because it was unforgiving and made me work like a demon. But not everyone is like that.

Yes, I understand that, and even addressed it in the post you replied to.
Simple fact is its easier to learn and figure out why you are getting wrecked if you have the same general level of gear as your competition vs. being completely reamed out every few seconds because your enemy has 3x more health and 25% more damage + whatever other advantages in scanning/dampening/logistics they can get.
The point would be to make it easier on new players to figure out how to play without having to deal with the overwhelming bullshit they are now subject to even in the academy (people who know what they are doing can put together solid advanced fits right out of the gate that will stomp the **** out of militia starter fits).
I think most people can agree that the Academy doesnt work even if it is a step in the right direction. Why not make the equivalent of high security space in Dust by making contracts that only allow Standard gear to be used? |

I guess your idea could work, provided that any backwardation of advantages provided by maxed out SP's was nullified. I think they do this in some of the pvp modes in Destiny?
