I'm that bad.
You are actually not that bad at all mate.
and @ OP - Just my opinion (who cares?) but if a corp places a lot of emphasis on KDR, are they really going to be that much fun? Some of the best players I know currently in game are happy to work with anyone that at least makes themselves useful.
KDR is quite meaningless and very easily manipulated.

Play carefully. Very carefully.
Never leave good cover without a very good reason.
Why are you travelling alone? Stick with the group.
Sticking with the group? Good, but don't give someone a multikill. Spread out a bit.
See blue dots disappearing from your tacnet? See a shotgun in the killfeed? Put two and two together and BE READY.
Pick your battles. Sometimes disengaging and falling back is better than trying to take one down with you.
NEVER stand still. Not while shooting (Sniping excluded), not while hacking, now while waiting, NOTHING. Strafe while shooting, make random movements while running to objectives, never run in a straight line. People are trying to kill you, your job is to make that as hard as possible for them.
Lost all spawn points except for a CRU or a lone uplink? Wait a bit. Let someone else spawn in. If they spawn, and then immediately get killed, spawn elsewhere.
NEVER leave cover without a very good reason.
Think of what can go wrong before you do it. Did you make it to the point early and see that nobody is there? Free point right? NO. Someone else could easily have gotten there and be waiting for you to hack. Use your head, and walk up and hack for 1 bar and back off. If nobody comes screaming in, it's PROBABLY safe to hack.
I could go on and on.
Long story made short: Play Carefully, and let every decision you make be a CONSCIOUS one. THIS is what separates the wheat from the chaff.
Eventually, all these things become second nature. People wonder how you got so good. How you react so fast. It's practice.
You have done them all consciously for so long, they become unconscious. You circle strafe and add in random movements while shooting. You know when to push away from cover and when not to. You start to notice patterns and predictability on a moments notice, and people will wonder how you pull things off.
This is what makes you a vet. Not proto gear. Not tons of ISK or modded controllers.
It's playing smart for a very long time. Long enough for you to play like that without thinking. Then you start using that brain for more important things, such as advanced strategy and map control.
EDIT: THIS IS NOT EASY AT ALL
That sounds like solid advice, I will try to take this into consideration instead of zerging 23/7.
