Currently I use the Amarr Assault with two Myofibril stimulants for 300+ damage and two Kinetic Catalyzers. With that speed and stamina I can outrun and out distance most scouts. My only problem is my health is only at around 500. When you have zero stealth this is an issue.
So the question is, what is the best Melee suit?
The Commando suits? Caldari Commando for high slots? Minmatar Commando for speed?
Or
A scout suit? Amarr Scout for stamina and health? Minmatar Scout for speed?
I'd really appreciate some direction. Aztec,

Minscout or Minmando, probably.
You have long since made your choice. What you make now is a mistake.

Calmando for Falcon Punches. (990.66 HP melee w/ Blue Bottles)
Minmando for a more versatile punch suit. (693.77 HP melee)
One thing I never knew about until just recently concerning scouts. The Amarr, Caldari, and Gallente scouts have a base melee damage of 80.
The Minmatar Scout has base melee damage of 120. With mods, you can bring that to 495.33 melee.
Kudos to the first boxing scout I've ever seen: mono kuro with a ridiculously awe-inspiring melee run.

If they do then the maximum you could do on a commando with three Myofibril Stimulants is 679.128.

You forgot the Hand-to-Hand Combat skill bonus.
+10% Efficacy to Myrofibrl Stimulants per level
That first Complex Myrofibrl is not increasing your melee by 50%. (Does math magic.) It's 75% (with the skill at 5).
Stacking penalties come in to play with them as well, people just don't realize how effective they are with the passive skills in place.
Also, another thing people might not realize. Cloaking delays are being put in place to all weapons. My theory? You will still be able to punch while cloaked (at which point you decloak, but the damage is already done).

First is 75%
Second is 65.18%
Third is 42.79%
Add them up and multiply them by 240 then add that value to 240 and you get 679.128 not 900+

Melee base damage is 240.
1st Complex Myofibril Stimulant 240 * .75 = 180 + Current Damage (240) = 420
2nd Complex Myofibril Stimulant 240 * .6518 = 156.43 + Current Damage (420) = 576.32
3rd Complex Myofibril Stimulant 240 * .4279 = 102.70 + Current Damage (576.32) = 679.02
(Numbers are rounded and then used in following equations which gives me a slight number difference than 679.128.
Well, either Protofits is wrong, or the game calculates this differently (I can't view melee number differences as I don't have Complex Myofibril Stimulants on a character to test at least the Dust UI).
I'll shoot something Cyrus's way and see if he can shed some light on that or if we found an error.
(Started brainstorming and I think I already see the error. Thanks Deadly!)

And done.
Thinking back, I do have a Militia Myofibril Stimulant BPO. I'll strap that to my suits and see how it modifies the damage. Not saying you are wrong, but there might be a possibility we are right, but CCP could have forgotten stacking penalties on them or a plethora of things that CCP can usually get wrong. (For example, the Proto BPOs released could have modules attached to it when you weren't supposed to. I think they hotfixed it today though.)
Therefore, testing ahoy!

I hope that CCP instead was smart and decided to use a different formula that benefitted melee better.

Maxed hand-to-hand, numbers on protofits are correct.
Also specced into minscout and calmando, and I think minscout or possibly minmando would be the best melee suits.
CalMando can reach 990 melee damage, but is too limited by it's speed/stamina to consistently use it, has only 1 low slot and bonuses for weapons that favor longer ranged fights. Fun, and can get some 1 or 2 hit kills against people coming around corners or scouts that get too close, but overall not great for melee.
Haven't played MinMando, but it has better speed & stamina than CalMando with 2 low slots to further boost those stats (or maybe fit a dampener to get under medium passive scans), can still get ~700 melee damage, and has (imo) better bonuses. Seems like it'd be a pretty good melee suit.
MinScout can reach 495 melee damage with the fastest base speed, good stamina and better stamina regen than the amarr scout. Compared to knives you trade tank and a good chunk of alpha damage to get more diverse weapon choice. Personally I like using swarms/sniper+smg or md+iop/scp on my melee suits for versatility, though I think knives are generally better for a cqc focused suit.

In-game fittings numbers match those on protofits, or did you mean there's a difference between the listed damage and actual damage dealt? |

Try the minmatar assault. When I went through my myofiber phase the min assault was perfect. 2xkinkat, 2xdamps, 4xmyofibs. This gave me about 560 damage per punch I believe.
For sheer damage, go calmando/cal sentinel. Calmando does 960 damage with all myofibs, cal sentinel does more but I can't remember the number. |
