1. Dust 514 just received a major update in the form of update 1.9, this come's after months of hotfixes and CCP telling us we wouldn't be getting major updates again. Why the sudden change and can we expect more to come?
We wanted to update the game so that it continues to stay relevant. As we kept hotfixing and hotfixing, we eventually stated to realize what we wanted to do really required a major update. Seeing this is what the players wanted, we moved forward. You should definitely be excited with what is to come.
2. Is the main focus of the development team right now to keep polishing the core or work on new features and content?
Both are equally important. In the recent patch, we both added a new map, new moods, as well as helping frame rate and balance concerns. We will keep moving in this direction.
3. We were told about the idea of racial parity. We have all the Rifles and sidearms variants for each race. Will we see Amarr and Minmitar vehicle hulls, Minmitar, Caldari, Gallante knifes and Gallante and Amarr heavy weapons in Dust?
Certain things we do think are unnecessary. Multiple different knives offer very little additional gameplay all things considered. While we don't have anything to announce yet, we will keep working on true racial parity.
4. In past updates certain vehicles and vehicle modules were added then removed due to balancing issues. For example the Logi Variant of the LAV and dropship, Black Ops HAVs and remote repair modules. Are there still plans on their reintroduction?
We wanted to move towards tieracide rather than Marauders being simply better than baseline HAV's. When we can determine what a Black Ops HAV would do drastically differently from a normal HAV, we will work towards reintroducing them.
5. The Shield Generator teased by CCP Wolfman way back in a blog post and the mysterious piece of equipment that starts with "s" (I'm going to link to that specific blog here) Will we still get to see that?
We have nothing to announce yet. When we do have something to announce or even decide where to go with such things, we will let you know.
6. Is it still possible fo Dust 514 to get Amarr and Minmitar buildings? In the 1.9 devblog actually there's a very Amarr looking structure, what's that about?
Who says they are or are not Amarr? We want to continue and expand the scope and feel of the game. This also means art assets. Again, nothing to announce yet.
7. How big of a factor does lore play in the development of content for the games?
Quite a bit. The loss of the Titan over Luminaire/Caldari Prime shows how seriously we take lore. Even the introduction of Cloaking technology was due to the Guristas stealing it. We feel lore binds the game together.
8. In 1.9 an NPC trader is given to us to sell unwanted gear to them for a fraction of the price. This is only a step a way from selling the gear itself to an actual player. Is a player market still on the table?
Selling to the NPC is a far cry from actual player market. While it is unclear what might happen down the road, Player Market is still not something planned for DUST.
9. Is it likely we'll see new game modes in Dust? Capture The Flag and deathmatch were mentioned during FanFest 2013. Also in the Project Legion gameplay video from this Fanfest it shows a varient of domination where the objective location changes every 5 minutes. Could these come to Dust?
On the table but no current plans exist. We definitely want to create new ways to play the game though.
10. Project Legion and Dust 514 both use the same engine. In the footage we were shown at Fanfest 2014 CCP Praetorian uses an Assault Rail Rifle. Were the assets simply transferred over or was it done from scratch? If it was transferred over is it a possibility that assets developed for Legion could be transferred to Dust?
A bit of both, really. Currently we are developing assets for both games. However, since Legion is still not a game, we cannot really comment.
11. We've recently seen the release of the fabulous Quafe BPOs. Should we expect more cool looking BPO's?
We can talk about this a little more on Monday.
12. What's your favourite part about working on Dust and Legion?
The community. Being so closely tied to seeing what the community wants and feels lets us push our game into making both something that will be profitable as a company but also that people will have greatly enjoy.
13. What's the hardest part of working on Dust and Legion?
Integration between DUST and EVE. It has been far more difficult than we originally thought, which is why a lot of things are currently 'on hold.'
14. How does the nerf/buff process work? How do you gather the information required and use it to balance the item?
Lots of ways. Metrics on kills/deaths, market information, and even just reading the forums. One person complaining about X is meaningless. When there are dozens of posts and behind the scenes data, we take a closer look.
15.What's your favourite fit and why?
I love my Minmatar Assault with Mass Driver and Flay Lock. Run fast, blow s*** up!
16. How often do you read the forums and check social media to get feedback from the community?
All the time. The hotfixes came from community information. We may not post often but we are reading and taking notes.
17. If Dust still has a decent lifetime left is it possible for it to come to PS4?
We don't have any plans at the moment to move towards the PS4 but we fully believe DUST still has plenty of life left.
18. What does 514 mean? (worth a shot)
Nice try but no.
19. Any final words you want to give the information starved Dust merc?
Keep an eye out on the forums, for dev blogs, and even social media. As we have done before, we like to give information in unusual ways.
