One of the things that has been around for the longest time has been the hope for an SP Rollover system. However, it was a little difficult to do. Would SP that rolled over calculate if you had a Booster before or after you got it? That would mean someone could just not play for three weeks, get a week long booster and grind through it basically "getting more money worth than they should have." So that never happened.
However, Active Boosters are being discussed to work a little differently. With the cap at 750k, Active Boosters will only increase the rate at which you cap. "Vets will play and not worry about capping, grinders will grind it out, new players can grind or grab a booster to cap out every week meaning they catch up to Vets faster." Best of all, there is no SP advantage for having boosters. Sounds like a good idea considering the cap was increased.
Could this mean we can push towards an SP Rollover system? I have a few possible suggestions:
1. 100% Rollover of whatever is left, low total cap. So we get 750k cap a week, whatever is left over of that cap gets put into cap next week, but the Total Hard Cap never goes above 1.5 million. This means you can miss 100% of one week and still come back to take your SP back. Maybe you need to use a Booster but you are not left out in the cold for missing one week hard core.
2. 50% Rollover of whatever is left, larger total cap. You still had 300k left and a new week starts. You get 150k added to your cap next week, bringing you to 900k. Cap it out at 3 million SP. This means you could miss out on 6 weeks of play, you lose out on 1.125 million SP but can still earn back 1.125 million. After the 7th week (375 x 6 + 750 = 3 million) you end up missing out on SP.
3. By now, you get the idea. Smaller Rollover, even larger cap.
There should still be a Hard Cap though. It is probably a bad idea to let people come back to "39,000,000 Cap Remaining." They won't catch up to it again anyway (that's an entire year's worth).
Advantages: 1. Not having to cap out every week and still remaining completely intact (as Option 1). 2. Encourages people that have 'missed out on playing' to play for longer period of time to regain that cap. This means that the usually dead parts of the week will have people that are trying to catch up to their cap from last week. They get to catch up and I get to shoot them! 3. Encourages people to buy Boosters. "Oh, no! I am at 1.5 million SP and need to get at least 750k in three days or I lose out! I can get a Booster to not lose anything." This encouragement is also completely neutral. They would have lost that 750k SP by not playing the week before. 4. Not being utterly screwed in a game because of life. I don't know why but College Professors do not understand videogames and give out these term papers and stuff. I have tried reasoning with them but they suggested "talk to the developers."
If Active Boosters are changed, it seems that a Rollover System becomes quite logical. I can see the difficulties of "Okay, we had 750K to the cap this week. We better make sure that the new 750K is used first or players will 'owe their soul to the company store'."
