I think it was really the scanner that made it so good. People didn't really use scanners that much back then. This was mostly before they made the radar changes, and all the uplinks and stuff showed up on the map permanently anyway.
Wallhack Scanner was STILL powerful back then, but we were all so busy spamming uplinks and speed builds that we couldn't be bothered with it.
People were pretty pissed. Within the first game, we made a comms adjustment. No bitching about it, just call out location. At this point, we were such a well oiled machine in regards to uplinks and point control, we just devoted our comms entirely to finding you and killing you.
As far as pure kung-fu skills, I think dengru was better! |

Im pretty sure that what I said was completely in line with the theme of the thread. Whereas, what you are saying is just pointless.

Moochie Cricket wrote:Whatever you want to call it (glitch exploit or cheating), that time period in PC was miserable regardless if you won or lost. It was almost as bad as the PC days when flaylocks and massdrivers reigned supreme. The mass driver was like the only weapon that worked decently well against the melee build. This was all before hit detection fixes and auto aim. I contend that if they reinstated the melee glitch, it wouldn't be nearly as big a problem today.
Also: All the crying about the melee glitch ignores the fact that a similar bug (Reload clipping) still exists in the game. Last time I checked, no one seems to be in favor of fixing that one. Reload clipping is the same concept, but everyone can do it effectively |

But... I was THERE dude. I WAS THERE.
This thread is 100% about the exact same glory days that I am talking about. I am probably the second most informed person on this subject. You can take a seat at any time. |

The only one that ever QQed about my kung fu was XeroTheBigBoss, and he was on my team... I am a bit jealous of the tears extracted. I figured that it was a feature. CCP clearly didn't play test with a keyboard. If they had, they would have noticed immediately that sprinting and meleeing caused the animation to clip. Sad really. |

I demonstrated it directly to a CPM, before the crying started. Nothing happened. Animation clipping is a large part of many FPS. I absolve you of all blame Ari-sum. My tutelage Dengru-San taught you well. The main innovation that you brought to the form was the scanner. Everyone else was too focused on uplinks at the time.
Hit detection was the real problem at the time. Speed builds in general were enough to make scrubs like me competitive. Melee stimulants were just a good way to utilize the excess cpu |
