For those of you who're considering going into the field of ADS, you may want to give this here a read. Be forewarned, this is going to be a long thread.
What I'm going to go over is what you'll need to know and invest into to become a potentially deadly, and useful pilot.
one more warning, ADS is the most SP intensive role in this game, so be sure to have plenty in reserve.
We'll be going over: your pilot suit your ADS fit Your skill tree Protocoll when engaging AV in and out of cities Engaging combinations of AV evasive maneuvers using cover (it exists pilots) how to properly support your team Your ROF dog-fighting theme music
Your pilot suit: Despite what all the groundies may think they know about ADS, believe when I say they don't. You know how many people know that the dropsuit inside the cockpit matters? Only the pilots, and only the people the pilots told.
Anyway, on to what suits are best while inside the cockpit and why.
Logistics AK.0: Despite our noble uplink bonus being royally screwed, it is still incredibly useful if you're alive. Which is where combining the ADS with the Amarr Logi comes into play. Fit is as follows:
2 Precisions 1 extender 2 range amps 1 plate 1 reactive plate 2 uplinks 1 nanohive 1 flux 1 rifle
Scout AK.0: This suit is perfect if the enemy team is scout heavy. You'll be like a flying scanner, with scans.
Fit:
2 Precisions 2 range amps 1 plate 1 reactive plate 2 uplinks 1 flux 1 rifle
Scout MK.0
If you're the type to gung ho all over the objective, then you'll love this suit paired with your ADS. The idea behind running a hack fit in the cockpit is to hack a point, and use your ADS as a massive roadblock while you do it.
Fit:
2 complex extenders 1 enhanced extender 3 codebreakers 1 link 1 flux
Your ADS fit:
I'd use protofits, but it's being a douche and showing me my Myron fit.
Anyway, for which ever ADS you prefer, you'll need to know these fittings for best usage of your craft.
My preferred Python fitting is this:
1 complex afterburner 1 enhanced HEAVY extender 1 complex light shield booster 1 enhanced PG upgrade 1 XT missile
This fit has served me well, and while not perfect, it is the most universal in effectiveness. It has a fast recharge, and the best mobility.
For those who prefer incubus, try these on. NOTE: These fits should be usable by both rocket and rail Incubus.
1 complex afterburner 1 basic heavy plate 2 complex light armor repairs 1 missile or rail turret
Next one is: 1 complex afterburner 1 complex heavy plate 1 complex light armor repair 1 complex PG upgrade 1 missile or rail turret
These are the fits I prefer to use. On the python, if you're a fan of hardeners, you can easily swap out the shield booster for the hardener, shouldn't present too big an issue.
Your skill tree:
Before going into the ADS, it is imperative that you get your dropsuit up before you touch it. So many times my dropsuit saved my ADS, it's not even funny (then again, I wasn't trying to be funny)
Your most important skills are as follows: Your chosen dropsuit Armor and shield buff armor plates armor reps (if you're not a fan of reactives) dropsuit engineering/electronics dropsuit core upgrades rail rifle operation or SCR op grenades range amps/ precision enhancers (the most important skill) codebreakers if you're running min scout. uplinks nanohives
Once you get all these (not necessarily 5), you should be able to skill into your ADS and beef it up. The most important skills will be put in order from first to last:
Core grid management engine core calibration Vehicle shield operation Vehicle shield recharge Vehicle shield fitting OP Vehicle armor operation (may have gotten the name wrong) Vehicle repair efficiency vehicle armor movement reduction (Definitely got the name wrong) Vehicle armor fitting OP ADS skill itself Small missile/rail operation Small missile/rail reload small missile proficiency small missile fitting OP Python/Incubus ROF
You may wonder why our most expensive skill is at the bottom, I'll get to that later.
Engaging AV:
Whenever fighting AV, you need to keep three things in mind. 1) do you have cover 2) what kind of AV weapon he's using 3) the position of AVer himself
We'll go over the most widely used form of AV first, the swarm launcher.
When engaging a swarm, he'll usually see you first. When this happens, and he hits you, fly out of the area and wait to recharge. Fly back into the area, wait to get hit again, find his smoke trail, fly out again. Recharge and go in for glorious battle.
Whenever fighting a swarm in open ground, don't even bother with evasive maneuvers. It's not like it'll help.
You can, however, when being hit by a swarm, lower your nose to receive the brunt of swarm damage, allowing you to not wiggle all over the place.
Swarms in general fall under 5 types of characters. 1) the halo nerd 2) the idiot 3) the love slider 4) the number 5) the circle
Halo nerds are your jumpers. Generally you'll wait for them to land, and shoot where they'll land.
The idiot doesn't move, he just locks on and shoots. Move in and kill him. That's it.
The love slider fashions his move after the dance move The love slide. In this scenario, wait for his feet to go into your rockets and shoot him until he dies. Show you to practice dancing in battle.
The number swarm employs the strafe taught by Regnyum, the figure 8. When fighting a number, aim for the center of the 8, or the top and bottom portions of each circle.
The circle swarm is basically the number without two circles. Shoot at bottom and top of circles.

mina, if you don't think it works, or it doesn't work for you, then fine. it works for me, and in the end, that's all that matters to me. we'll see whos ADS survives longer, and more often. and you can give me the stats all you like, it won't change that i run it, and it works for me.

Sir Snugglz wrote:As a dropship pilot I would like to add that I do not use any of the fits that were mentioned in this thread for my pilot suit nor python....
I made the mistake of sharing my fits before which lead to the major nerfs... This time I'm keeping them to myself. Yes, I remember your fit pre-delta. Being honest, I would've ran that fit myself, but I prefer my active modules.
Also, if you've become active again, can you see if running range amps and precisions still works? I haven't been able to since 1.9 dropped, and I'd like to figure out if it's still worth running on your suit.
