So, I keep ******* up due to the latest fix to the RR. How do I adjust? I'm Prof 5 in RR, and Prof 2 in Magsec. I've found that switching to magsec for CQC is best, but it just doesn't have the power of the RR. Do I just need to get Prof 5 on my Magsec, or is there strategies I'm missing. Also, I only use Caldari stuff.

In CQC, either fire in bursts, or switch to a sidearm.
Working as intended.

Thanks mates. Would firing in bursts work better with the Magsec in cqc, or should I just blast that thing on full auto?

Me and you use the same weapons! I normally switch to Magsec in CQC and fire with the RR wildly if one Magsec mag isn't enough, normally kills them, just watch those scouts, they're hard to hit.

Magsec can be full auto from the hip for about 15-20 rounds without compensating.
If you compensate, you can easily put down 30-40 rounds without recoil getting insane. If you ADS, it's even easier.
Counting rounds is more helpful than you think. Go next to a depot and fire at a wall and count how many shots before the sights start to go crazy. Practice this until it's second nature.
Battlefield Vets do this all the time. Good players know when to fire in 3, 5, or even 7 round bursts, depending on the distance.

You have a few options when using the normal version of the Rail Rifle:
1. Sidearm.
2. Get REALLY close. The RR still hits like a truck and the kick nerf only matters after about 10 shots. If you are close enough so that those first few shots hit, they will likely die before you are incapable of hitting anything.
3. ADS. This obviously works best if you can move back out a bit.
4. Burst fire but that can be a death sentence. Only really works if the enemy breaks line of sight for a second so you can get a recharge before they start hitting you again,

Magsec isn't as good in CQC as the SMG. Magsec is more of a medium distance weapon.
If you are relatively accurate, and of the pistols should work.

Sorry, only stick to the Caldari weapons. I usually stay at range, but I have to get close to cap a point.

The magsec is my favourite weapon as I use it for target in 'my space' (Medium- short range) and my RR takes care of the ones farther away.

The best solution to this, I found, if you are NOT in aim down sights, it's almost necessary to use the right analog stick to direct the shots while you're strafing.
The kick is going to be horrendous, so you'll have to level your sights and overcompensate a bit.
Still not the same, but it should do. |

I've always used the RR as a long range weapon when I knew I'd need to be far from the enemy in some maps so it makes me laugh to see this kind of thread asking "how to adapt to the weapon now that it works as intended?".
I never wondered how to CQC woth it before as I always did this same technique:
- Check what kind of enemy I'm facing. - If I see he's squishy, I shoot 7-10 rounds with the RR. - If not, I immediatly use my sidearm (SMG) and destroy the guy with it. - If still alive, then I use the RR.
If I face many people at the same time in CQC, I usually empty my clips to kill most guys and then runaway for a better range advantage that RR gives me.
That's my tip for you ;) I'd spec into this magsec prof lvl 4 at least if I were you^^
Sorry for my bad english.

Fire 5 round bursts and keep pulling the muzzle downward. It really is just like an actual automatic weapon now. Gotta keep pulling that muzzle downward and start low likw at the target's waist or knees.

if its overnerfed like i keep reading itll probably be tweaked soon enough.
i never understood why the railrifles been changed and changed. it was fine when it first came out in 1.7. the only rifle thats broken is the combat rifle doing 100damage bursts and the acr with 1200rpm and spitting on the assault rifle. scrambler and rails have always been fine. its the ar and cr that werent in the right spots. not sure why the rr needed to be nerfed. i got killed by combat rifles way more than i was ever killed by rails.

So I take the Amarr Assault with RR, and get attacked by ****-poor shotgun scout. I say, "you're dead - I have the RR muzzle in yer face," but then the screen jiggles about and I can't get enough hits like I usually do. I die.
Then I remembered the ninja-fix that deployed that day. *curses*
On second thought, we should apply kick reduction to rail weapons for Caldari Assault, instead of useless reloading. Restricts optimal performance to racial fittings (Gallente - AR hipfire/kick/dispersion, Amarr -Scr Heating, Minmatar - CR Clip)
Give the Magsex some love.

You got to remember -- some races are not in their element at certain distances. Gallente aren't that good at long range. Caldari are VERY good at range. Gallente are VERY good at CQC. Caldari not so much. If you insist on running Caldari only you are just going to have to accept that there will be some situations in which you have a disadvantage. |
