It is a not uncommon thing for me to be tooling around in a pub match and see a Heavy (Sentinel) stomping around on their own It almost makes me cry.
What a WASTE of good killing potential. What a risky and reckless behavior. Why in the world do they not have a Logi Bro? Are they fresh out of the academy and just donGÇÖt know that a Logi can make them soooo much more effective? DonGÇÖt they realize how much ISK they can save just by having someone following them around keeping them alive and occasionally sticking them with a near-painless needle? Do they not even value their KDR? Surely there canGÇÖt be THAT many pariah heavies out there that scare off LogiGÇÖs with inconsiderate and irritating behaviors.
So I ask myself GÇ£Self, what are YOU going to do about this shameful situation?GÇ¥ Well, IGÇÖve decided to start a topic here to see if I canGÇÖt help with BOTH of those potentialities (newness and annoying behaviors). After all, helping is what a Logi does best
1)Freshness, ignorance, naivete, newbie-itis
GÇ£HEY HEAVY! A DEVOTED LOGI CAN MAKE YOU AWESOME!GÇ¥ Ok, I yelled that so you would hear me over the thrumming of your cool new HMG. The one youGÇÖll have to buy again and again each time you die without a Logi with a good injector needle nearby, which will happen more often when youGÇÖre not near a Logi who is constantly repairing your armor while you kill-crush-destroy those puny little assault suit scrubs. Where do you find a devoted Logi?
The best place is a good corp that has a roster full of selfless Logi specialists like Abandoned Privilege (send your app in, attention: Dubya Guy). The rapport you develop with a faithful Logi or two will guarantee you always (day or night) have someone to go into battle with who makes you look like the hero you always wanted to be. ThatGÇÖs what we do best. What do we want in return? Certainly not your kills WeGÇÖll get lots of war points, and will likely come out above you on the battle report, but we canGÇÖt help that. All we ask is that you not be too inconsiderate (see #2).
2)Inconsiderate, oblivious, annoying, irritating behaviors
YOU are the hero. We get that. WeGÇÖre cool with that No problem. Lead the squad. Tell your Logi where youGÇÖre going and how you are planning to pulverize those punks over at Alpha. Call for that ammo. Yell GÇ£Cover Me!GÇ¥ while you reload. Curse up a blue streak about bleeping OPGÇÖd Nova Knifers WeGÇÖll be right there with ya, buddy. THE IMPORTANT THING IS THAT YOU COMMUNICATE. For all our super powers, we LogiGÇÖs are not mind readers (although Mara Shepard comes pretty close).
There are other simple little things you can do to avoid irritating your Logi, like slowing down before turning corners, occasionally stepping into cover when our rep tool canGÇÖt keep up with that full squad youGÇÖre taking on, and making your way back to the nearest uplink and waiting 10 blasted seconds while we respawn after taking a shotgun blast for you (note: to get truly inspired loyalty from your Logi, boldly declare that GÇ£NO ONE shotguns MY logi and gets away with it!GÇ¥).
IGÇÖve LogiGÇÖed with some pretty awesome Heavies, both in and out of my corp. IGÇÖll name a few that arenGÇÖt even in Abandoned Privilege just so you see this is not a shameless plug for my corp Some of the best Heavies I have ever LogiGÇÖed for are jonny battles, Spy Davila, and ChaoXsoul Chaos. They each do these things, every battle, and they appreciate a good Logi Bro. As such, when they call, IGÇÖll be there, rep tool and flux grenades at the ready. They're welcome to the kills.
There. IGÇÖve done my bit to help the sad state of affairs that is the GÇ£Lone Heavy.GÇ¥

I agree with your perception TritusX, but dedicated Logi's DO exist. Yes, the best way to find them is in a corp, but another way is to look at the results board after a battle and look for someone near the top with few kills but a lot of war points. Add them to your contacts and mail them asking them to run with you sometime. Most Logi's love nothing more than to be of service. They'll likely invite you to their corp's pub channel (ABPV Pub ) where you can find them on a reliable basis.
Note: Best days to spot a dedicated Logi per the above method are Wednesdays and Thursdays before they've capped Afterwards, they might just be tooling around feeling bored because their usual Heavy has decided to skill into ADS piloting in her spare time.
PS. It's not that hard in a pub match for a single advanced Logi/Heavy pair to get 30+ kills and an orbital. A full squad isn't essential....but it can be fun to occasionally have that feeling of owning the map and not just the point. That's hard to do without a squad.

There is a sense/movement/mentality in some corps that KDR is critically important...regardless of role. Aspiring new Logi's hear and read about it in corp application descriptions and from other players. Then when the Logi goes into a battle and tries to hold their own in a gunfight against assaults and heavies...they start thinking they are on the wrong path.
If they DO stay the path and get good Logi skills, they can still feel the peer pressure to run other fits Quote:"Wow! You went 1 and 5 in that battle? You scrub! What kind of weapon are you using? You should skill into ----. Maybe you should try a Heavy suit to get your armor up, or maybe a scout suit so you can move a little quicker." This might explain the perception of there not being enough Logi's. They ARE out there, but their corp or usual squad-buddies push them away from what they were originally built for.
Experienced team players and more "seasoned" corps know better. LogiBro's aren't pressured to be slayers or solo-ists. When they log in and throw a "lfs to logi" into the channel, they are snatched up by Heavies looking for that extra edge.
If you are looking to rescue a "lost" Logi, be specific in your chat or pub squad requests. "RF4 need a Logi" or "Heavy needs Logi for Dom". Give them a little respect and consideration (per above) and they'll abandon ill-conceived notions of skilling into Nova Knives and cloaking and go back to saving SP for proto nanohives.
Other tips to keep your Logi happy: - Call in a LAV or DS when the battle starts, and carry them to strategic sites rather than having them trudge along with you on foot...or worse yet, leaving them behind - If you do something reckless that gets them killed, say you're sorry and you know Logi suits are expensive. Heck, if you are flush with ISK, maybe even offer once "I'll pay for that suit." Likely they won't take you up on it, and you don't want to make it a habit or expectation, but acknowledging THEIR investment is one of the most considerate things you can do. - Occasionally oooh and ahhh over their warpoints at the end of a battle, or at least don't express jealousy. Don't say (or tolerate others saying) things like "That's just because he's a logi". If I'm in a squad and people say things like that, I make my excuses and leave.

Fox Gaden wrote:Why I don't go out of my way to run with Logi: Most Logi can't keep up. (At least with my Kin Cat fits.)Most Logi are shocked when I dive for cover and leave them exposed. (Don't use me for cover!)A Repping Nanohive does not get frustrated and does not yell at you when it dies. (I like that about them.)I don't equip more than 1 Plate on a Sentinel Fit. That being said, a good Logi who can keep up with me, and does not blame me every time they get themselves killed, is a God send. There just aren't very many of them. Edit: Also, I have enjoyed squading with Abandoned Privilege and am in their public channel. Of the few good logi I have run with, at least one of them was from Abandoned Privilege.
Thanks Fox. I agree that ABPV does have some really good Logis that have taught me many things. Chasing a speed-sentinal like yourself is a fun challenge for a "tank" logi. But a good Logi should never be whiney. If he is, then he is a distraction rather than an enabler. I like that you set expectations up front. That's good, honest communication...a key to squad success.
