I'm going to parrot what's been said already. Is there some quantitative formula used to determine drops i.e. what type of weapon is dropped? I swear when I get an officer weapon of any kind (outside of the 3 Thales in a year and a half), it is something I'm not skilled into. I would swear this is on purpose to get people to use SP to skill into something they don't really want in order to use a new shiny toy they are not able to.
I use Rail Rifles, Combat Rifles, Sniper rifles, and HMG's almost exclusively. I have NEVER, in a year and a 1/2, received an Officer variant of any of these outside the 3 Thales I mentioned. I have, however, received plenty of either proto or officer shotguns, scrambler rifles, and laser rifles, all of which I have basically no skill points (I'm level 1 in every weapon just for access to something better than a militia weapon). I would like someone to prove to me this is absolutely coincidental and not an effort to make me waste SP skilling into weapons I don't even want to use.

They simply don't exist, there is no nefarious SP coercion plan. Thats also why we felt it was important to have the players contribute in a big way to their introduction.
Thank you for the answer Rattati, I appreciate it. I guess it is just dumb luck on my part then. Looking forward to maybe getting my hands on an Officer Combat or Sniper Rifle (or 6 or 7).
