Dust has a pacing problem. One where the game, best played when action packed, can slow to a crawl. Minutes pass by without hardly a kill on the killfeed. Walking around aimlessly, shooting your teammates because there is no one else to shoot at.
Dust has given me the most intense, thrilling moments in gaming, but it has also bored me to death. If I can't sleep, i'll play Dust because I know i'll find a boring match to lull me to sleep.
I don't want to play these games anymore so I thought up of a few ideas to encourage players to become an active participant in whatever game mode they are playing.
Balance map size versus player count
That's a nice way of saying that some of these maps are too big. Some of these maps are ******* huge. You could cut some of these maps in half and they would still be too big for gamemodes like Ambush and Domination. Having large maps is a good thing, if you have a large enough player count... But without a sufficient number of players, maps can feel empty and traversing them turns into a long boring chore. Not to mention, it can be disheartening to sprint/walk for 400 meters only to get [______]'ed with hardly a warning, fair play or meaningful engagement.
But muh vehicles
Not everyone want to ride/drive around in a vehicle. They can add up and get expensive on top of leaving you vulnerable if you want to return the vehicle.
Snipers Lens glare. Long range snipers need to be less safe. Force them to move and reposition when discovered. Hunting down snipers should be a more common occurrence, one that doesn't feel like you're ignoring the objective. Force them to use their backup weapon.
They are too safe right now because rendering is crap. With smaller, more balanced maps, and a lens glare mechanic that increase visibility, only skilled people will actually bother playing sniper rather than a fallback for when you don't want to die anymore.
[Starter Fit] EVERYTHING! Because why not? Give those starter fit users more to play around and experiment with. Make it easier to discover that you really love playing with [______]. New starter fitst will reduce the feeling of futility when opposed by an army of [______]s because the player will always have a viable counter available. Or if anything else, "if you can't beat'em, join'em" applies here.
starter fit heavies/hmg/forge starter fit lights/cloakes/shotguns starter fit uplink suits starter fit Hav starter fit dropships starter fit Lav
Also, i'm tired of killing the same "[kill me pls] Anti-Armor fit". Give new players more opportunity to explore the different weapon mechanics. Literally shove it in their face. Give new players a bigger purpose other than to pad my KDR. This also helps veterans. Let's see how balanced this game really is.
Balance map versus main objective(s) Currently, a lot of objectives are put in crappy locations. Objectives should not be in the line-of-sight of the highest point in the map. Also, the objective should not be within shooting distance of the highest point of the map unless the highest point of the map happens to be difficult to defend (but I don't see that happening. Verticality is the name of the game).
If an objective lies underneath a vantage point, there must be a higher vantage point overlooking the vantage point close to the objective. High vantage points near the objective need to be extremely accessible. The harder it is to get to the top of a vantage point, the further away from the objective it needs to be.
This will eliminate the feeling of futility when one team secures high ground first, while the other team makes little-to-no attempt fight for it other than to say, "welp, looks like i'm sniping now".
....That being said, it would be really cool if we had a good king-of-the-hill style domination mode. One where the single objective changes/moves to higher and higher ground. Everyone has jetpacks and is jumping from building to building. Sky manatees are everywhere (because everyone has [starter fit] dropships), shooting each other, shooting the jetpack assault suits, racing to the top!
Get Spawning Right CRUs are alway placed in extremely vulnerable positions. Always into a bottleneck or the bottom of a bowl...
Uplink spam is the devils work and single handedly ruined PC.
I'm not too sure what to say about this. Make Uplinks easily available in a starter fit, but only allow a person to have 1 uplink active at a time, across all tiers and suits. No tricks, workarounds and exploits (same with hives too, pls). Base spawns cannot be easily camped. Put base spawns, in incredibly defensive positions, free from long range snipers. Don't put base spawns 500 meters away from the action, it needs to be closer. I'm not saying that a spawn can't exist 500m away from the objective. It's just that there also needs to be a closer option for those who are not calling in vehicles.
Sky-spawning would be amazing obviously but i'm not holding my breath. |
