Now that I caught your attention, let me bring you up to speed on something.
So this past two weeks I have been wanting to see if I still got my minja mojo by simply ditching the cloak altogether and sticking to my age-old tactics of sticking to cover like a booger on a wall, hugging the terrain like it's a "kawaii" anime girl, relying more on my eyes and less on the TACNET, checking all of my corners before turning them, being extremely heavy on the flanking, and being extra careful in picking only the battles that I know I can stand a snowball's chance in hell in.
So far, the results are in. I still got my minja mojo!
It's really nice to see that using the cloak has not made me lax on skill over the many months since cloaks were introduced. Even without the cloak fitted, I am still able to wreck heavies, surprise many assaults, and catch a handful of snipers with their proverbial pants down. Even when a few of them saw me coming, I am still able to make them lose their clones. Surprisingly enough, I haven't run into cloaky shotties as often as I expected. In fact, I have only died to cloaky shotties a few times over the past two weeks. This is not to say that cloaky shotties are being used less or something like that. It could be the result of me just avoiding the likely places to run into such players. Of course, I can't always avoid accidentally bumping into another scout I didn't see and I'm still vulnerable to the dedicated EWAR scouts. But as long as I stick to my tactics I mentioned, I can at least mitigate that.
Here is my fit.
['Quafe' Humble Beginnings] 'Quafe' Scout M-I ZN-28 Nova Knives Submachine Gun Flux Grenade R-9 Drop Uplink Proximity Explosive 2x Basic Sidearm Damage Modifier Basic Profile Dampener Basic Kinetic Catalyzer
Proxies are just for that extra point just in case I somehow manage to kill a LAV, which has happened a couple of times. The SMG is actually there for checking corners and relatively far distances. I don't use this for killing at all, though it is helpful in softening up a target before I finish it off with my knives. R-9's are actually meant more for me rather than for my team or squad. I often deploy them in places that are far enough away from any objective to avoid being scanned and while making sure it's not deployed along any common routes. The Flux Grenades are mainly for clearing out equipment and softening up any targets that happen to be huddled up inside a small room.
Though the purple "bling" of the suit can make someone wonder if I can be spotted easily, surprisingly I have not been spotted as much as I thought. Probably because all that's blinged out on my suit is that Nintendo Wii strapped to my chest and a few plates on my arms and legs. The rest of the suit is still duck tape.
One more tactic I use is that I always check the map on the overview before I deploy into it. I look to see where snipers are likely to perch themselves, sometimes hack an objective that everyone else seems to be ignoring, and -- on some maps -- I roam around along the enemy's redline to see if I can catch any stragglers that are scrambling to get into position. And I am still surprised to see a bunch of heavies still roaming alone.
But my best tactic is not obvious at all. Because I don't get as many kills as I use to compared to just kamikazeing in the most obvious places, no one notices me on the map. This means people who would otherwise change tactics at the first sign of my presence are not changing their tactics to counter me because I'm not appearing on the kill feed as often as I use to. They start letting their guard down and that's when I pounce while keeping myself unnoticed. I try not to kill too much lest I draw the attention of those who recognize me.
One more thing. I stopped worrying about winning the match and focus instead on picking my battles. I'll let the regular slayers deal with the winning.

I must admit, my reaction to this thread was:
Wonderful, yet another person farming kills and contributing little to the team. You might as well take out a sniper rifle or go back to your old cloaked fit.
But perhaps I'm just a bit emotional after the RR nerf. lol |

I too tried ditching the cloak altogether. Then I realized the problem wasn't the cloak, it was how it was used.
For example: Playing without the cloak is good because it forces you to damp and play carefully. However, when damped and cloaked, you gain possibly one of the best escape tools in your kit, more than enough justification to run one.
Lets say you try to take Bravo under mushroom. You hack and then see your passives light up. They're all coming in. There is no escape.
Fight your way out right?
NOPE. Go in a corner and cloak somewhere out of the way. Wait. Patiently.
They will do their check. See nobody, and proceed to hack (probably with someone covering their back). Objective is lost, just get out.
Saves your life.
Cloaks are really powerful when crossing open terrain or just hiding. With the new changes coming, I suspect we will see more people using it as a last resort tool for hiding when being sneaky won't cut it.
TL;DR
Cloaks are great when used right. Go without one for awhile and come back to it. You'll find the times when its a good idea to cloak, and when its a good idea to just be sneaky instead. This goes doubly for 1.9, which makes cloaking reduce your ability to scan.

I suppose I would rather put myself at risk hacking objectives and CRUs.
I feel better when my team wins even if my KDR is 0.5 because I was willing to make the sacrifice.
Cloak enables me to no longer have to run those circuitous routes that take several minutes and too many times end up in my death anyways, wasting all the time I just spent running a cover filled flank.
No more Sprint Glitch? This party is going to be off the hook!

Enjoy them. I've not used the weapon in some time, having long since went the ARR and BrAR (or CR) route like anyone with half a brain, and I'd wreck your logi suit with dual sidarms. |

You know, I just finished a match in Domination on Impact Ridge.
Map: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=107460&find=unread
I decided to focus instead on the socket located on Grid F10 to see if I can catch a few peeps by surprise. Making sure I deployed my uplinks in case I die, I carefully move into position from one direction to see if anyone is home. No one is home. I hack the CRU and go back into hiding somewhere relatively far to avoid active scanners.. Surely it grabs the attention of someone. Unfortunately when trying to jump him, he had already hacked the CRU and while I was trying to flank him, his buddy spawns in at a very inconvenient moment for me and I die.
I came back for a second try. This time coming from another direction. Again, checking everything is clear before I move in. I don't see anyone but I had to take the risk. After running into the socket I catch an Amarr assault by surprise and stabbed him. Unfortunately I didn't see the other logi that was covered by him so when he died and dropped to the floor his logi was revealed to me and one-shot me with a Bolt Pistol.
Third time is a charm. So I go back once more but this time being more careful and chuck my Flux Grenades to soften them up or at least disorient them. Taking the risk once again, I run in and managed to kill the Gal Logi while also killed an Amarr Scout while he tried to use that old swap-suits-on-supply-depot trick (didn't work out for him). Not wanting to take anymore chances, I sprint out to safety while I still had a clone to fight with. I broke even that match. 3-3.

So there is this guy in Skim Junction who I caught sniping from his own redline or at least close to it on Grid D7 by the spire structure. He brought his little Methana to move around probably because he's in an assault suit and then parks it on a hill behind the tower. Seeing him safely from the distance I decided to go after him since he was also alone and I like eating snipers for dinner. Nothing special about it. Just a typical stab followed by me hijacking his Methana which I later drove into the redline and abandoned it for it to explode because I'm like that.
I then run back to my usual vantage point to look for other peeps to pounce on. Lo and behold, that same sniper come back to the same spot but this time parking his Methana at the base of the tower in D7. Once again I sprint a long way towards him making sure he's not looking at my direction. Stab, Hack, Drive into Redline, Watch Fireworks, move on.
This time I hide deeper into the enemy side of the redline along Grids F6 to M7. Funny enough no one checks their six here.
OMG, that same sniper comes back. But I think I pissed him off. While I was tucked away on a hill, I saw him frantically driving his Methana along the same grids I'm covering while spamming his vehicle's scanner. SCAN ATTEMPT PREVENTED it told me. Clearly he fitted a militia scanner. For the remainder of the match, he is going around the same area, missing me by a wide margin, trying to look for me because I feel like he was butt hurt that I killed him twice and hijacked his ride twice. XD
PS: Keep in mind I still don't have my cloak fitted.
