I was thinking about granting newer players a triple xp weekend every weekend until they reach a certain about of skill points for a paid service just to allow new alts to catch up and play :)

I understand that there is a necessity for reducing the gap between newbies and vets, but there is no point in giving free xp to one part of the community just because. Specially since newbies will always come around and will always need xp. So this way of fixing npe would have to be done over and over and over again.

Now a Veterans Day for all mercs here since early 2013...that'd work.

It would only be to a specific cap (say 3M sp). Or if people really had a problem with helping newbies, give it to people who have had an account since the start or something. Though that would sort of defeat the purpose.
It's not something that would allow people to catch up to high SP chars in a month. But I personally don't like seeing the SP difference between players. I would rather have more high SP chars to fight than killing people with really low SP.
That's my personal opinion. |

I agree no matter how much sp you have if you play like a bluedot you will always be one just because they have access to better gear does not mean they will act less stupid. If it was up to me I would just give booster for x amount of days.

I think it is a good idea.
Vets could still make out with some alts if they have been wanting to try something new, or just for fun.
Plus it might increase the retention on new players just a bit.

Seeing how unbalanced this game is as far as proto stomps and stuff goes and how frustrating the experience is for new players. This game really needs something to help new players stick around and let them know how to play and the Battle Academy doesn't help with anything but giving you the idea that this game will be fun and fair till your first Public. Even if its just sort of an obstacle course sort of like MAG to at least let new players learn the game and the mechanics and a a day or two of bonus SP for starting (Not the booster).
It took me like 3 characters to get something functional going, first one I skilled into everything to try it and had no armor or decent weapons, second one I decided I liked the Rail Rifle and got ADV Assault Armor but realized I had no SP for decent mods, and this is my third attempt and a month ago I found out how to spawn vehicles.

Here I am becoming the creature that I never wanted to be: the "EVE does X" guy. Forgive me, mother...
EVE did the same thing at one time too. New players were given a triple skill training acceleration below 1.7 million SP in order to get the most essential skills, usually Learning or even basic flying. That went away once the Learning just became utter baseline. But the idea was still there "give new players a way to get into the game faster without giving them an edge over people that have been here longer." *sigh* "If EVE was willing to do it then DUST should have no problem doing something similar given the fact that EVE generally treats new players like bloody experts."
*gags*
It isn't a bad idea to give new players faster SP but it would have to be done in a very careful way. I got off lucky when I started. I had played EVE and I understood that SP is not something that can be spent flippantly until you have A LOT of it. For the new player, giving them 500,000 SP and never a way to learn the game is a nightmare. I remember reading about someone who quit or at least started a new character after he dumped all his points in Turret damage because he thought that tanks spawned on the map like Battlefield. If anyone remembers the old Talent system in WoW and Death Knights, you can get a glimpse of what I am about to say.
In WoW, starting Death Knights started at a fairly high level compared to every other class. However, they were given zero, zip talents at the start. Instead, they got to the correct amount of talents they were supposed to have by completing the introductory quests for DK's. This both set it as a "you kind of have to earn it!" and let players see what the abilities did. I think a system like that would work wonders for DUST/Legion.
Give starting players no bonus 500,000 SP and let them know "you will get an influx once you complete X." They do the first game of Academy or better yet a training simulator, they get 50,000 SP. Keep doing that until they have their 500,000 they should have and teach them a bit about the value of saving. Jeez, even "You will want to use an Assault suit. However, you do not yet have enough SP. Continue on with the tutorial in order to obtain the necessary SP." The new player does it, they get the SP. "As you may have been able to tell, it requires careful planning in order to obtain the more powerful skills and benefits in DUST. Before you spend your SP, it is advised that you plan ahead and consider your options." And, yes, give new players accelerated SP to a point but only Active SP so they have to 'earn it.'
Once they finish the Academy, automatic skill respec. "You will be given the option to refund your skills again at 3.2 million SP, so feel free to experiment. However, it will be the final time it will be offered in this manner."

one of the ideas that got suggested in the SP cap reveiw couple year sback was to not have a weekly cap but just allow players to go till they hit the 'ceiling' then you didn't earn any sp unless ccp added more skills so you could play 24/7 earning boosted sp if you wanted but once you hit that 200m sp that was it you wouldn't earn any more.
i think the SP cap can be frustrating but the devs have hinted that the amount for the weekly cap will be changed soon. when they worked ouot the 190k a week figure it was back in the days before all racial suits, weaons ect were in and they've admitted its outdated and they may look at raising th eweekly cap by about 50% at some point
