I think the real problem isn't strafing, but, and I hope I am using the right term here, acceleration?
Its not that they can move side to side, its that it can be done so instantly.
That being said...
THIS IS NOT A SCOUT PROBLEM, THIS IS A PROBLEM OF MECHANICS!!!
Stop making every freaking problem a scout problem!
For crying out loud, you pansies think you would find something else to whine about.
Yes, strafing is a problem, given the acceleration, but why lump it in with inane scout fixes that do NOTHING AT ALL TO SOLVE THE ACTUAL PROBLEM!!!
This is an issue that affects ALL suits, but is most prevalent because of scout speed.
This ridiculous idea that nerfing speed and making scouts slow is a fix that brings balance to the game lacks foresight and awareness of real issues. It demonstrates the laziness that generally plagues the GD portion of the forums regarding balancing issues, as even when a real issue is identified, the people presenting it throw reason and logic out the window and dress up the problem in a way that shows they only care about nerfing play styles they don't like that counter their own and could give two squats about actual game balance and problem solving.
End rant.

End rant. Devil's Advocate: Perhaps a change of the scout's numbers is a much simpler fix than a change to the physics of the game regarding inertia, especially considering how only limited programming man-hours seem to be available. Just sayin'. That may be true, but I think the end result would be a much greater imbalance, giving the lowest HP suits a nerf in speed, than would warrant such a fix.
There are other issues that can be addressed in a more reasonable manner that would make the strafing issue less problematic.
Not to mention the likelihood of this nerfing scouts so hard that many strafers will just go to assaults and abuse the same mechanic there on faster suits, with the addition of higher HP.
In the end, you will fix nothing, and create more problems than you had to begin with.
