Hey,
So this may be the wrong forum and whatnot, but what's everyone's opinion on why there wasn't a single mention of either Dust 514 or EVE Legion at EVE VEGAS?
It seems like someone isn't proud enough of the progress being made on Dust and/or that the EVE Legion project hasn't made enough progress to get the green light. My guess is that it's the combination of these two issues that are preventing CCP from pulling their heads out to say something.
So I would like to open this topic up to rampant speculation. What's your thoughts on the Dust/Legion progress and where do you think CCP is within their project scope?

I think it says everything about the people at CCP that handle marketing and nothing about the development of the two games. I'm of the opinion that CCP found it's marketing people in a North Korean labor camp and gave them a pamphlet on capitalism.

I'm not sure why this thread even exists. It wasn't on the event agenda, and there was no statement in any way that anything would be announced at EVE Vegas. There's really no reason for anyone to have expected anything at EVE Vegas specifically. It's also partially a player-run event, so a really big announcement wouldn't really be done there more than likely anyways.

From what I gathered from his post, it was more surprise that there wasn't something. I'm in the same boat. In the current world of nonstop marketing every where you go, it seems almost nonsensical for a company to not take advantage of an event the size of Eve Vegas to do some hyping of one of their assets.

It is a matter of record. The record shows that CCP was marketing ambulation and all that could come with that for five years prior to actually having anything real to show. What they ended up with was a piddly bloated little captain's quarters feature that really had nothing to do with the proposed ambulation feature of Incarna.
They proposed DUST and took four years to produce a final product that fell far short of the initial idea of something that could transend the fps genre and connect to EVE in a big way. They ended up making just another typical arena jumpy gunny game.
They proposed an MMO of World of Darkness. They showed cutting edge development for charater modeling et al. They took five or so years to announce they cut development and couldn't produce any product at all.
Where's Valkyrie? They haven't shown much past a prototype of that and that project is also hanging on the hope that it will bear fruit.
Yeah, show us another slick movie trailer of your "vision" CCP. I'm sure somebody will still be impressed.

I think what he is getting at is that since dust and legion are part of the Eve universe, they should of been included in the event/agenda. But the fact that they were not included in the planning, let alone the actual event, shows how much the company cares about both projects.

With CCP, you have to learn to decode their cryptic minimalism into something substantial via all available avenues.
Seagull and Fozzie both said it themselves watch the in game news.
If you have been you'll see the sleepers behavior get more eradic and unusual.
All empires *the 4 main + pirates* are stepping up incursions to wh and sleeper space.
Prototype clones and researchers are missing.
And all sorts of activity is "off" from normal.
And then most of Fozzies presentation was on a darkgray-black slide depicting a dust/legion battlefield with eve ships flying about and small wtfcrafts *valkyries* here and there as well.
Thats all for the immediate tinfoil, more to follow when im done scouring the eveo forums

Let's see.
1. Eve Vegas was originally a player-run event. It still is a player-run event only with CCP more involved. 2. Eve Vegas often features Fleet Commanders, Directors, and other key players from the infamous Goonswarm Federation doing a lot of the talking. 3. Eve Vegas never listed Dust as part of the schedule that was released weeks, if not a month, prior to the event starting.
So no. I'm not surprised that Dust was never mentioned at Eve Vegas. It's Eve Fanfest 2015 you need to focus on.

The thread exists precisely because there wasn't anything on the agenda. I know this is not an officially sponsored event but last year there were computers setup to play dust and there were none this year. No mention of patches alpha, bravo, charlie whatever or even the upcoming update, though every awesome poster showed a dust mercenary next to an eve and valkerie pilot.

that and its an event called EVEvegas not EVE and DUST514 vegas from past experience it was mainly created by EVE players only, with DUST kinda being a tag along if anything interesting happened to be coming out around the same time. the only event on the calendar i'd expect any DUST/Legion news is Fanfest or if a large enough DUST playerbase got together and made something like the 'DUSTy, Springfield' event (like what i did there?) otherwise its sporadic devblog for all your 514 news

There some presence of Dust last year remember the "laser focused" comment? But their wasn't anything on the schedule so it shouldn't be a surprise that it wasn't mentioned. Even then still why no mention or not put on the agenda? Well I don't think many know , so anything well be a guess. |

I'm a CCP fan. I love Dust and I hope like hell Legion happens.
That said, how can a person not see the error in not taking advantage of such an opportunity to market one of their products? What if 50 people decided to create a Dust account just to get the head start on their Legion character? That would be good right?

EVE VEGAS was a goon event last year too. We still had a Dust presentation and a whole cash of computers setup to shoot people.
It was awesome and it complimented the eve/valkerie setup so you could play all three games in whatever their current state.
I believe the computers are all provided by CCP and sponsors, so why were the PS3s/PCs for Dust MIA?
The point of this thread is to barn storm wildly and come up with the exact excuse CCP is using to avoid mentioning dust/legion.

Here is the thing to take away from EVE Vegas in regards to DUST (there was no way in HELL Legion was going to be mentioned):
It was conspicuous in its absence. It was there last year (RIP Saberwing) with PS3's and give aways but not this year.
Again, there was no way that CCP would use EVE Vegas to mention Legion. My guess is that Legion will be mentioned at FanFest. It is big enough that the regular 'gaming press' takes note of it and has a far, far more massive audience. If I had to hazard an opinion, Hilmar has already said internally that he wishes to move forward with the Project but not to mention anything until FanFest. That gives them the biggest surge of interest and lets them continue to develop in the dark for (probably) another FanFest for when it is ready to come out in the open.
Any kind of announcement of DUST was unlikely. Not mentioning at all is odd. Something along the lines of "We are currently hard at work with Uprising 1.9 and Legion" was what I expected, maybe some numbers showing that DUST is still growing. This year, DUST was the overly touchy uncle that was present for the Holiday Dinner before but not now; no one wanted to mention "Hey, where is Uncle DUST?" because no one wanted to be the jerk when someone said "In jail for, uh, 'assault'..."

Okay, imagine the boost in hope and confidence of the existing Dust community. There is a long, long list of reasons why it would have been good and I haven't seen a remotely decent reason why they shouldn't have.
If Legion doesn't happen CCP isn't going to be negatively effected if they talk about it now. The damage will be done. Dust will be dead and Legion won't be a thing. There is literally ZERO to gain by treating Legion like the Manhattan Project. Eve Vegas would have been the best possible arena to open up their communication about Legion.
Announcing 1.9 will be a huge shot in the arm for CCP. If they would also provide some hope for Legion perhaps more players would open their wallets in support of Dust.
Am I starting to get my point across?

A 10 minute thing while everybody takes a break to go smoke and/or take a dump between Eve presentations would have been plenty of time to give 10s of 1000s of Dust players a hard on for a week.

But I still don't see a point in being surprised that Eve Vegas didn't have anything to announce at all on Dust/Legion when everyone already knew in advance that such a topic was not coming up during this year's Eve Vegas.
PS: Don't forget that a large number of Eve Online players don't care at all for Dust or Legion. In fact, I have seen a few players even hope for CCP to stop making FPS games and get back to internet spaceships.
