I think it says everything about the people at CCP that handle marketing and nothing about the development of the two games. I'm of the opinion that CCP found it's marketing people in a North Korean labor camp and gave them a pamphlet on capitalism.

Soraya Xel wrote:I'm not sure why this thread even exists. It wasn't on the event agenda, and there was no statement in any way that anything would be announced at EVE Vegas. There's really no reason for anyone to have expected anything at EVE Vegas specifically. It's also partially a player-run event, so a really big announcement wouldn't really be done there more than likely anyways.
From what I gathered from his post, it was more surprise that there wasn't something. I'm in the same boat. In the current world of nonstop marketing every where you go, it seems almost nonsensical for a company to not take advantage of an event the size of Eve Vegas to do some hyping of one of their assets.

1. Eve Vegas was originally a player-run event. It still is a player-run event only with CCP more involved. 2. Eve Vegas never listed Dust as part of the schedule that was released weeks, if not a month, prior to the event starting.
So no. I'm not surprised that Dust was never mentioned at Eve Vegas. It's Eve Fanfest 2015 you need to focus on.
I'm a CCP fan. I love Dust and I hope like hell Legion happens.
That said, how can a person not see the error in not taking advantage of such an opportunity to market one of their products? What if 50 people decided to create a Dust account just to get the head start on their Legion character? That would be good right?

Okay, imagine the boost in hope and confidence of the existing Dust community. There is a long, long list of reasons why it would have been good and I haven't seen a remotely decent reason why they shouldn't have.
If Legion doesn't happen CCP isn't going to be negatively effected if they talk about it now. The damage will be done. Dust will be dead and Legion won't be a thing. There is literally ZERO to gain by treating Legion like the Manhattan Project. Eve Vegas would have been the best possible arena to open up their communication about Legion.
Announcing 1.9 will be a huge shot in the arm for CCP. If they would also provide some hope for Legion perhaps more players would open their wallets in support of Dust.
Am I starting to get my point across?

It was conspicuous in its absence. It was there last year (RIP Saberwing) with PS3's and give aways but not this year.
Again, there was no way that CCP would use EVE Vegas to mention Legion. My guess is that Legion will be mentioned at FanFest. It is big enough that the regular 'gaming press' takes note of it and has a far, far more massive audience. If I had to hazard an opinion, Hilmar has already said internally that he wishes to move forward with the Project but not to mention anything until FanFest. That gives them the biggest surge of interest and lets them continue to develop in the dark for (probably) another FanFest for when it is ready to come out in the open.
Any kind of announcement of DUST was unlikely. Not mentioning at all is odd. Something along the lines of "We are currently hard at work with Uprising 1.9 and Legion" was what I expected, maybe some numbers showing that DUST is still growing. This year, DUST was the overly touchy uncle that was present for the Holiday Dinner before but not now; no one wanted to mention "Hey, where is Uncle DUST?" because no one wanted to be the jerk when someone said "In jail for, uh, 'assault'..."
A 10 minute thing while everybody takes a break to go smoke and/or take a dump between Eve presentations would have been plenty of time to give 10s of 1000s of Dust players a hard on for a week.

Dux Bunny wrote:EVE VEGAS was a goon event last year too. We still had a Dust presentation and a whole cash of computers setup to shoot people.
It was awesome and it complimented the eve/valkerie setup so you could play all three games in whatever their current state.
I believe the computers are all provided by CCP and sponsors, so why were the PS3s/PCs for Dust MIA?
So let's barn storm wildly and come up with the exact excuse CCP is using to avoid mentioning dust/legion.
: P
Thanks for all the replies so far, much entertainment!
I'm starting to get the feeling that some of these dudes work for the CCP marketing department.

Yeah, I don't even take into account the fact that it wasn't on the agenda. That still feeds into my bewilderment.

If they don't talk about Legion at FF 2015 you can go ahead and call it dead.

I see what you mean.
But I still don't see a point in being surprised that Eve Vegas didn't have anything to announce at all on Dust/Legion when everyone already knew in advance that such a topic was not coming up during this year's Eve Vegas.
PS: Don't forget that a large number of Eve Online players don't care at all for Dust or Legion. In fact, I have seen a few players even hope for CCP to stop making FPS games and get back to internet spaceships.
The number of players that want to see that are much higher than most dare imagine.
Eve development is kicking ass right now, with the lack of communication coming from CCP about Legion I'm sure those players along with a ton of former Dust players believe that Eve is the only thing they are focusing on.
Hence, my posts pleading for CCP to open up about Legion.

I don't expect much news from CCP about how Legions development is going because of how they waited seven months to tell us about Legion at the place and time where one would expect good news about a CCP product. You can't really blame them though. Look what happened with Dust. They told us things they wanted to work on, we took it a gospel. They had ideas, we thought they were in the pipe being developed. It's on us as much as it is them that the conversation has stopped on Legion. They learned the hard way not to tell us anything until it's ready. Look at the 1.9 announcement, they gave us an inch and immediately people wanted a mile. The told us a dev blog before the end of October (tick, tick) and people wanted it NAOW! I'm talking about the development, not things that they want to do that would seem awesome. We want it now because we haven't heard shite about Legion in alongggggggg time. I'd be satisfied if they told us what they simply plan to do with Dust for as long as it lasts and what will be happening with Legion. Right, but they've closed ranks on Legion because of our reactions to Dust. I wasn't talking about the "oooh, shiny" aspects of Legion. I also meant development. It hasn't been green lit, there won't be any talk until it's officially a product to announce. They showed off "game play" trailers using Carbon, then had to switch to their modified Unreal 3 engine, and nothing from those trailers applied. Not the look, not the game play, vehicle design, suit design, etc. They are not going to make the same mistake again. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to know more too, just not going to happen. If Legion get's green lit, we'll see parts of it here first. We all know we're beta testing the balance and design for Legion, should it become real.
Take a minute and try to explain to me how you think CCP would be negatively affected if they spoke about Legion but it ended up not being greenlit. I mean like really think about it. Would it affect Eve? Would it affect Valkerie? What would the Dust community be able to do if CCP hyped up Legion but failed to deliver? Silent or Vocal, no Legion = disappointed playerbase.
It's frustrating to me to see so many people say the types of things you are saying. Being silent about it serves no other purpose other than freeing up the Devs to do video game stuff instead of blogs and forum posts. BUT being silent about IS affecting them now with players losing faith. As many players excited about 1.9 and BPOs there are just as many or more that see it as a cash grab and 1.9 a consolation for no Legion.
If a person can't see this, then they are fooling themselves.
