This is of course a speculative post. But if you really think about it Legion is as good as Greenlit. Why? Because PS3 is a static system with a lifespan, now you can debate the length of that lifespan but everyone can agree it has a finite time in which it can viably play an online game and limited space in which to improve (They even hint at some of this in the fanfest video). Since CCP seems to want to play the long game with their products it seems like sound reasoning they would need a new medium eventually and (I am being generous here) I think they might have learned from previous experience regarding the limited viability of consoles.
Basically I cannot foresee a long term future for ground (and hopefully someday space) combat on the PS3 for a game which is at the beginning of a long lifespan on a system which is nearing the end of its lifespan.

Which is why DUST was expected to get on the PS4 and develop there (or Legion at least). DUST released a year late, but it could still have been ported to PS4 within a reasonable timeframe. CCP went with a completely new game on PC instead though.
This doesn't mean that Legion can't be dead at this point (or rather at some point in the future probably). If CCP think Legion will not work they WILL kill it and with it the whole idea of a FPS in New Eden.

Maybe whenever that dev blog gets released about 1.9 CCP will have answers about wtf they are actually going to do with Dusts remaining time and the future: Legion.

To my knowledge no dev ever said anything about any intention to port to PS4 and if they did four or five years after it would come out they would be facing the same issue. They aren't going to let the idea of planetary combat die which is why Legion is most likely not dead.
Besides the Dust we have now was not the original plan for Dust. Can I say with certainty no of course not, but in all likely hood it is alive, although depending on how much they revamp the game (I would be fine waiting longer if it meant they did it right, starting with space based environments) it could be in its very infancy.

They did say that a ps4 port is an option but they would have to get the PC version to a point where they feel it needs to be. I'm not sure if it should even go to the ps4.
I think it would be best to keep it for PC only so they have nearly no hardware limitations, and it's been a bad experience for us to be let down cuz of CCP having the limits of the ps3 to work with. So it would be developed much faster on PC and it will get much much further with that vision of an fps linked to EVE.
BUT I also think that the console only guys shouldn't be left behind, especially those that invested plenty of money into that vision for Dust 514. CCP should give the ps4 hardware a chance to see if it limits them to a point where it'll hold back the development of Legion at a certain point.

I don't want to be callous I would rather they drop the console only folks like a beat and focus their resources on the PC version. I think everyone wants a top notch Legion and I know some people think that the people who have invested time and money into something have some sort of moral right to get some inclusion on this new deal. To those people I say Mass Effect.
How much time and money did people invest in Mass Effect? Between the three games, the DLCs, the extra content on multiplayer, and the time put in playing all of those things making sure your **** is maxed out for the final battle. What did I get huh? Another issue to discuss with my therapist! That's what I got! Is that fair I ask you? NO even the expanded ending was terrible! Did I get something from that?
The point is focus on making the game right, it is not often you get a second chance, and as long as I can transfer my character when the time comes I will still play legion and buy some boosters and so will a lot of others.

Dunno, I'm sure you can find some comments from way back about wanting to port to PS4 at some point as they very well knew DUST couldn't just stay on the PS3 forever. Besides, even if they didn't say it directly it was still in their plans considering their 10 year plan and what not.
Legion is their second, and very likely last, shot of a FPS in New Eden. If they don't get Legion done right, they'll very likely kill the entire idea of a FPS in New Eden.
The DUST there is now was not the original plan for DUST, no, but I don't think that Legion is either. To me Legion seems quite different than what they wanted DUST to be, for now anyway.

I see your point lol, the extended ending for ME3 is kind of the only good thing EA could do for the game. The game wasn't bad for me as it seems for everyone else. I still prefer ME2 though.
But anyways Investments aren't guaranteed to get you what you want it seems in the video game industry. Maybe they don't have to drop the console only guys though. Streaming devices I suppose to replace consoles, basically the main hardware is in some building belonging to Sony while the console only guy is using this little box to connect to that hardware and has to pay this subscription fee. And Sony would worry about upgrading that hardware to have the best possible quality for the games and developers won't have to sorry as much about hardware limitations.

That it wasn't vaporware just yet. Clearly it was not "pretty much public knowledge" it was conjecture that CCP had not given up on Legion yet, which lets face it most people already considered it dead. That Legion was alive was about as much speculation as public knowledge.

The CPM has also assured people about this recently, something they wouldn't do if Legion was dead.
I don't think I've even seen someone thinking Legion was dead, but a lot of people have requested more information about the progress of the game, which is clearly not the same as saying it's dead.

I don't think keeping quiet is correct. I still don't think making Legion for PC only is correct. I still think they will shut down DUST when Legion is out. I still think the migration to Legion will be very limited, if happening at all. I still think CCP is terrible.
That doesn't mean that I think Legion still in development is a surprise.

Originally it was going to be released on the PS3 years before the announcement of the PS4. Now they're contractually obliged to continue Dust on the PS3 and the reason they can't call Legion Dust 514.
I think Legion exists simply because CCP is throwing massive wads of money at it.

Anyways the PS4 is basically a PC with static hardware. Given that PC developers make things for various PC types this shouldn't be as big as an issue as one would assume.

Only PS3 or Sony diehards expected it to come to PS4.
The reason to put it on consoles in the first place was to try to capture a console market of players. To that end, the PS3 has (maybe still has?) many more players than on the PS4. So, with that in mind, the only logical place to take Dust past PS3 was PC. Some would say that PC should have been the first choice.
Don't expect Legion on any console ever. I'm sure that CCP has learned their lesson in dealing with Sony. |

If DUST had been a success it would eventually have made it's way to the PS4. Thinking otherwise is hilarious. Down the line likely the PC as well, but not before PS4 for sure.
I don't actually expect Legion to ever get on any console though. CCP wouldn't be able to handle it on two platforms (and don't want it anyway).

After the WoD Problem I dont think CCP can afford further wasted development effort. I bet they will take their time to make Legion as good as possible to make success as certain as possible. Dust runs parallel as a plattform for monetization and gameplay experiments, as we are witnessing now. I bet they will not just drop Legion but we maybe waiting for a long time to see it become a reality.

SOE's game Planetside 2 is coming very soon to PS4, why would they want anything running alongside a polished proven sci fi mmofps, especially after CCP's handling of Dust on PS3.
That is why Dust did not get ported to PS4, cause the system could run Dust or that other mystery game just fine, I don't believe SOE wants anything CCP has to offer on their consoles any further. So you have what you have, CCP running out a contract with Dust and announcing a GREAT NEW GAME which no one has heard anything about for six months. Know why? To keep sucking whatever money they can out of the hopefuls and diehards until the day they shut the server down.

I believe this to be true as well - CCP expected something that Sony wasn't willing to do, and vice versa. this is why you won't be seeing Dust/Legion on any console - assuming Legion gets off the ground before CCP folds.

I'm sure that CCP has learned their lesson in dealing with Sony. I think it's vice versa, Sony learned it's lesson from dealing with CCP. I believe this to be true as well - CCP expected something that Sony wasn't willing to do, and vice versa. this is why you won't be seeing Dust/Legion on any console - assuming Legion gets off the ground before CCP folds.
first off ccp wont fold they got eve online runing and thats a fantastic game(even if its not my pace need fast action)

This doesn't mean that Legion can't be dead at this point (or rather at some point in the future probably). If CCP think Legion will not work they WILL kill it and with it the whole idea of a FPS in New Eden. Only PS3 or Sony diehards expected it to come to PS4. Legion is walking at a snail`s pace.
CCP should buy a small company with a good FPS, absorb the manpower and knowhow, re-skin, adapt and ship it.
I am not confident in their ability to make a good FPS, whatever the platform is.
