This is of course a speculative post. But if you really think about it Legion is as good as Greenlit. Why? Because PS3 is a static system with a lifespan, now you can debate the length of that lifespan but everyone can agree it has a finite time in which it can viably play an online game and limited space in which to improve (They even hint at some of this in the fanfest video). Since CCP seems to want to play the long game with their products it seems like sound reasoning they would need a new medium eventually and (I am being generous here) I think they might have learned from previous experience regarding the limited viability of consoles.
Basically I cannot foresee a long term future for ground (and hopefully someday space) combat on the PS3 for a game which is at the beginning of a long lifespan on a system which is nearing the end of its lifespan.

This doesn't mean that Legion can't be dead at this point (or rather at some point in the future probably). If CCP think Legion will not work they WILL kill it and with it the whole idea of a FPS in New Eden.
To my knowledge no dev ever said anything about any intention to port to PS4 and if they did four or five years after it would come out they would be facing the same issue. They aren't going to let the idea of planetary combat die which is why Legion is most likely not dead.
Besides the Dust we have now was not the original plan for Dust. Can I say with certainty no of course not, but in all likely hood it is alive, although depending on how much they revamp the game (I would be fine waiting longer if it meant they did it right, starting with space based environments) it could be in its very infancy.

I think it would be best to keep it for PC only so they have nearly no hardware limitations, and it's been a bad experience for us to be let down cuz of CCP having the limits of the ps3 to work with. So it would be developed much faster on PC and it will get much much further with that vision of an fps linked to EVE.
BUT I also think that the console only guys shouldn't be left behind, especially those that invested plenty of money into that vision for Dust 514. CCP should give the ps4 hardware a chance to see if it limits them to a point where it'll hold back the development of Legion at a certain point.
I don't want to be callous I would rather they drop the console only folks like a beat and focus their resources on the PC version. I think everyone wants a top notch Legion and I know some people think that the people who have invested time and money into something have some sort of moral right to get some inclusion on this new deal. To those people I say Mass Effect.
How much time and money did people invest in Mass Effect? Between the three games, the DLCs, the extra content on multiplayer, and the time put in playing all of those things making sure your **** is maxed out for the final battle. What did I get huh? Another issue to discuss with my therapist! That's what I got! Is that fair I ask you? NO even the expanded ending was terrible! Did I get something from that?
The point is focus on making the game right, it is not often you get a second chance, and as long as I can transfer my character when the time comes I will still play legion and buy some boosters and so will a lot of others.

Dust 514 doesn't look like Theodore Roosevelt to me.
Well played sir, I shall amend my original statement to Legion is not dead yet, nor will it be dead in the near future.

That it wasn't vaporware just yet. Clearly it was not "pretty much public knowledge" it was conjecture that CCP had not given up on Legion yet, which lets face it most people already considered it dead. That Legion was alive was about as much speculation as public knowledge.
