Why I would I ever want an active scanner? I've been experimenting with protofits.com, and even at max level skills, and on a Gallente logi, doesn't look like it could be much help to me.

Active scanners show you those nice pretty little uplinks so you know where the enemies are coming from. They are also useful for spotting RE and finding heavies, and mediums, and if you get a error message from it then you know a cowardly scouts around. I actually make sure to put one on all my Assault suits since they are fairly cheap on the PG/CPU cost and insanely useful. |

Proto active scanner scans:
- undampened MN/AM scouts
- Logis
- Assaults
- Sentinels
- Commandos
That is 90% of suits. Sounds good to me.

to OP: If you are in a squad....it is highly recommended as there is little that can be scanned (if it doesn't have 4 dampeners/3 with skills)

i know plenty of people who don't dampen their suits but...such as me. I put codebreakers on instead of dampeners (15% from caldari scout operation V and 15% from dampening V

Avoiding a Gal Logi with active scanner with anything that is not a scout suit is impossible.
Gal Logi needs a scanning nerf. As do scouts.

Dos the precision of your dropsuit effect the active scanner in any way?

I do not have the best gungame in town, and let's be honest, my reflexes at 40+ aren't what they used to be. Add to this that I'm deaf in one ear, and it makes competing with many people difficult. To counter this, I've always been into scanning....and here's my take:
Gallogi scans are the strongest in the game. That's the good news.
The bad news is every scout in the game can get below them once they see the "You have been scanned" come across their screen. All the scouts have to do is run a combination of dampeners and/or a cloak and you'll ever pick them up. On the bright side, they are a bit squishier in being forced to do so.
The only time I use a gal logi is if I have scouts running around causing havoc and I want try and force them to run the even squishier suits (or I need the extra range). Otherwise, when I want to provide scans for my squad (which is to say quite frequently), I use either an Amarr or Cal Scout -- as the other team doesn't get the warning they've been scanned.
Active scanning is good, and in many ways passive scanning is better, yet both fail miserably when faced with well-dampened scouts.
Hope this helps...Leadfoot |

When scans are used the red dots seem to all turn into scouts you cant scan. 7 secs of scan should always catch a scout. Since the change to scanners its been worthless against scouts. I just had to spend 4mil to see for myself. The suppression effect doesnt work when your swarmed by scouts you cant scan even before your cooldowns are up.

I run a scanner on my Min Scout, and I wouldn't run without one. It's great because you can still tank instead of ranges/precisions, and I can scan 100m/s out, and tell if a scout's there. Test it in the field.
What do you actually run? That would have been helpful...

That is why the scouts can get to 14.
It wasn't an accident.

Does it include the new logi bonuses and all that?
I stopped using the jack-of-all-trades Gal logi, and went for Minnie as it's on par with the Amarr for usefulness. Great reps from the Minnie, fast spawns from the Amarr.
I think the Gal logi would be great to make sure as few people move around unnoticed as possible. All must be seen, none shall escape.
I may be missing something, but I'm pretty sure that I didn't call for a tank nerf before Uprising 1.7. - Atiim

I used to think this all the time, but now I am debating going for Gallente logi next for a dedicated active scanner role. Trust me the active scanner still has some great uses and utility to a squad.
Just....make sure you are in a squad otherwise that active scanner is a lot more limited.

Even if it only shows players for a few seconds, the active scanner is one of the most illogically powerful equipment pieces in the game. Mind you, it can scan nearly all sixteen players. Though the part that makes it useless for getting points is that people really don't have enough firepower to kill all sixteen people to give you intel assist points super fast. |

The problem with the scanner is why bother running it when you can get similar effect by just running a scout with ewar and if you lose the cloak you can have similar HP with a smaller hit box. Plus they're currently only worth running if you're a Gal Logi which limits them and then add to the fact very few people actually run logi anymore.
I am always surprised when you've been scanned pops up on the screen. |

WTh? yo man this is one of the scubbiest posts ive seen in a while. I say that only so you can learn a valuable lesson. A HUGE part of this game revolves around being able to know the location of your enemy, esp. with the introduction of scrub cloak scouts. Shared scans are imperative to your squads survival. As a gal logi with active scanner bonus you are one of the very few people in the game other than scouts that can pick up scrub cloaked scouts. Yo wtf man I can't believe a gal logi would think about not using a scanner... |
