Like many people, I havent really been using the officer weapons that I do have, what do the brave people who have used them have to say about good dropsuit fittings to be using them? What do the cowards like me have to say about what you might want your dropsuit to optimize while using an officer weapon?
I'm considering using a few Balac/Krin but I'm wondering what type of suit would be best for using an officer weapon, and I'm also wondering what optimization would be better.
I have proto Gal Assault and Scout, but I'm wondering whether Gal Scout, Assault, or Commando would be better for these weapons, or heck maybe even another race's dropsuit?
Would you optimize high slots for more damage? Or to be able to scan more targets? Or just tank up shield a bit more?
Low slots for increasing scanning range? Or go the standard Gal way of a bit more armor and a lot more armor rep? Or add speed? Stamina?
Triage hives to help survive firefights/recover from engagements fast?
In a lot of ways it feels like trying to make an officer weapon fitting is like trying to find the ultimate fittings, although maybe you'd prioratize survivability more than killability because being surprised and killed is a lot more consequential than burning through a proto weapon.
I'm running solo a lot these days, but maybe I shouldnt try to use an officer weapon unless I'm squadded up? Being in a squad would change the things you would want to optimize towards, hmm. |

Use them on Proto fits.
Use them in situations where you have the squad members to support you in your role.
I love my Officer HMG's. But I lost most of them in a PC match.

Full Proto tanked fits.
I show off and run Quafe Assault ck.0, Balacs and Wolfmans normally. :)

Nice! Full tank on a gallente suit would slow me down a lot though, unless ferro were used. So much to consider. |

I think that Fox is onto something here, up in the meta game. The officer weapons represent the ultimate risk to bring onto the field, and having a squad that can rep you, revive you, and prevent you from getting flanked/cornered/forged is vital to their existence on the battlefield. If you play with an officer weapon, you are THE priority red... and that is where; with the right squad at your side, you can turn your weapon into a true monster.
My suggestion is to fit to your best playstyle, and go shiny. Thale's were once speculatively valued at 10M Isk[Dust] (which translates to roughly 60M Isk[Eve]). The rest of your suit will only add up to a fraction of the potential market value, fully fit in LP-Proto gear. KnowledgeXL once said: "The weapon protects the suit, and the suit protects the weapon"
best of luck!

EDIT: consider using nothing but a proto-fit version of the suit for a few games, then when the time comes, switch to the exact same suit with the officer weapon. It's just not a good time to be unsure of how you fit the suit.
EDIT: I wouldn't play FW with an officer weapon.

When we run officer weapons for kicks and grins, we run in a squad and everyone runs proto suits with needles (if they can). |

See, that's a weapon called coordination... the best weapon of all, Sun Tzu would likely say.

If you just want to experience using Officer weapons, bring them out when you're totally stomping the enemy team, they're all militia noobs, and you're at least 95% sure you won't die. Also, grab a bunch of Logis from Squad Finder who can rep you, and revive you when you die. That, or TK unsuspecting blues in FW. For me, these are the only circumstances under which I would even consider using Officer weapons; they're just too valuable to use in a real fight. IMO, you'd be better off selling them in 1.9 for a metric ****-tonne of ISK, unless you've got > 100 of them already... o7
And yeah, just use the best fit of what you normally run. Don't armour tank if you don't normally armour tank, don't speed-tank if you don't normally speed-tank. Just use a Proto fit of whatever you normally do and what you're best at.
